Brock Lesnar vs Finn Balor at Royal Rumble for Universal Championship
Finn Balor has become the #1 contender for WWE Universal Championship to face Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble 2019.
Balor, in an interview to “Inside the Rope” at WWE UK performance center, said his dream match is to face the Undertaker at Wrestle Mania. But, if he does not get that dream match, he will also settle for a match against Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title at Wrestle Mania.
Now it looks like that he has got his dream match but at Royal Rumble, as he has finally got a chance to regain the WWE Universal Championship. Balor won the no. 1 contender fatal 4-way match at RAW this week which also involved John Cena, Drew McIntyre and Baron Corbin.
Earlier, Braun Strowman was stripped off from his opportunity to face Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble after damaging Mr. McMahon’s Limo while chasing Baron Corbin. It seems Braun Strowman is not cleared to perform in a match yet after the surgery on his right elbow and WWE has to arrange this segment to cancel the match.
John Cena, Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, and Finn Balor all staked their claim for the title shot in front of Mr. McMahon and a fatal 4-Way was arranged for the no. 1 contender. Later, Jinder Mahal came to Mr. McMahon backstage and asked to be in Fatal 4-Way Match. Vince told him to pick any one of the 4 participants and if he beat him, he gets the entry to the Fatal 4-Way match. Jinder Mahal picked Finn Balor but was beaten by him and Finn Balor retained his spot for the fatal 4-way match.
In the final minutes of the Fatal 4-Way Match, Cena hit Attitude Adjustment to take out Corbin. McIntyre, then, hit a Claymore Kick on Cena before Balor hit a satellite DDT on McIntyre. Balor then followed it with a Coup de Grace on an already incapacitated Cena for the pin and the win.
Balor was the inaugural Champion of the Universal Championship when it was introduced after he beat Seth Rollins at Summer Slam 2016. But, he had to relinquish the title just next day due to a shoulder injury. It remains to be seen whether Balor would regain the title at Royal Rumble.
