Welcome to the live results blog for AEW Dynamite April 12, 2023, from Panther Arena in Mikwaukee, WI.

AEW World Champion MJF is required to make a mandatory presence on the show. Two title matches are announced for this episode. AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy will defend the title against House of Black’s Buddy Mathews. TNT Champion Powerhouse Hobbs will face Silas Young in an open challenge.

Keith Lee is set for a big singles match as he takes on Chris Jericho. Swerve Strickland will take on Darby Allin in another singles match after his affiliate Brian Cage attacked Allin last week on Rampage.

Two tag team matches are also set for the show. Riho and Skye Blue will face The Outcasts’ Ruby Soho and Toni Storm. Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli will take on Brondon Cutler and Michael Nakazawa.

LIVE UPDATES

Swerve Strickland vs Darby Allin

Darby takes a quick start with a stunner. Swerve goes to the floor and Darby hits him with a suicide dive. He hits a senton at ringside next. Swerve counters and slams Darby on the floor. He stomps on him on the floor. Darby trips Swerve on the barricade before breaking the countdown. He goes to hits a splash against the barricade. Swerve trips him on the steel steps. He kicks at the face and then takes Darby back to the ring.

Swerve removes Darby’s belt and whips him with it. The referee tries to stop him. Darby gets him down with a double leg takedown. A corner splash from Darby follows before Swerve hits him with a back heel kick. Swerve uses a chain across Darby’s face for a while. Darby drags himself towards the ropes and gets up on the apron. Darby hits some punches before he bites Swerve. Swerve hits him with a kick to midsection. He hits a double stomp on the apron to take us to a break.

Swerve hits a flatliner as we return. He goes to the top but Darby trips him and puts him in the tree of woe. Darby removes Swerve’s shoes and bites his foot. Darby stomps on his chest after the referee stops him from biting. Darby puts on a knee bar and tries to hook the ankle. Swerve rolls over and picks up Darby. Darby blocks a suplex with a punch. Darby comes off the ropes and Swerve catches him with a German suplex.

Darby puts on the knee bar again after a stomp on the foot. Swerve reaches the ropes. Swerve gets Darby on his shoulders but Darby counters with a poisonrana off the apron and to the floor. Darby hits a coffin drop to follow it up. Prince Nana comes out and puts Swerve’s foot on the ropes to break the pinfall. Darby goes to the floor to intimidate Nana. Brian Cage comes out and Darby returns to the ring.

Swerve catches Darby with a running knee and hits a double stomp off the top. Swerve’s ankle gives out and it takes time for him to cover Darby. Darby kicks out of the pin. Darby runs the ropes but Brian pulls his leg. Swerve picks up a chair but Darby catches him with a dropkick against it on the apron. Darby puts on the Last supper to get the pinfall.

Winner – Darby Allin

MJF comes out after the match. We cut to a break.

Daycare

MJF is in the ring and takes the mic as we return from the break. He wants to give Darby credit for a good match tonight specially since he did it without Sting in his corner. He saves Darby is one of the best in the ring pound for pound and recalls their match at Full Gear 2021. But MJF is better than him and he just needs to say two words to prove it, “headlock takeover”.

Darby says MJF used to say that all his problems would go out when he makes it to national television, however, MJF is still miserable. Darby says he used to thing the same but he was dying inside in the first year of AEW and was going to therapy. Then, he started giving back, brought his parents a house and retired his dad.

MJF says Darby is a fool for thinking that he is special. He is sick and tired of Darby, Sammy Guevara and Jack Perry crying about his morals. MJF says morals kill careers in this business. He says he does not give a shit if he goes to hell as long as AEW title goes with him. He adds that he is willing to do anything to create a legacy for himself and his legacy will be greatest of all time. He says Darby’s legacy will be being Sting’s bitch.

Sting’s music hits and he comes out to the ring. Sting comes out to the ring and tells MJF that all this day care talk about his offends him a lot. He thinks himself more like a cheerleader. He starts throwing pop-pop on MJF. Sting says this is not like a Cody daycare-like thing. Sting says he also had a support system in form of Ric Flair back in the day. He also gives pop to Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. He then tells MJF that showtime is almost over for him, but it is just starting for Darby Allin. He asks MJF to mark his word that Darby will become AEW World Champion.

Darby then tells MJF that this plastic world is not consuming him and he is just like as he came in here. Darby says he will end this reign of terror. MJF spits at him and leaves the ring quickly. MJF keeps running his mouth as he goes backstage.

Powerhouse Hobbs(c) vs Silas Young – AEW TNT Championship

Hobbs makes his entrance and we see in the inset that QT Marshall has gifted him a car. Hobbs starts with a tackle to drop Young. He continues to keep control for a while before hitting a Death Valley Driver to get the pinfall.

Winner – Powerhouse Hobbs

QT’s crew drags Young out of the ring after the match. We cut to big screen and see Wardlow is there with a steel bar and starts to destroy Hobbs’ car with it. He breaks the windshield before tipping the car over with a forklift. Hobbs is livid and is looking to put Young through a table with a powerbomb. Wardlow’s music hits and Hobbs is waiting for him at the stage.

Wardlow comes out and starts to brawl with him. Crew members come out and separate them. Hobbs is taken backstage. Wardlow drops Aaron Solow with a big shot to his back and puts him through a table with a powerbomb. Wardlow picks up the AEW TNT title belt and poses with it on the stage.


We get a pre-recorded promo from Bullet Club’s Jay White and Juice Robinson. They say this is the best era for Bullet Club as they are ready to takeover AEW. This is Bullet Club Gold.

Orange Cassidy(c) vs Buddy Mathews – AEW International Championship

They run around and counter each other to start. Cassidy sends Buddy to the floor with a hurricanrana. He puts his hands in his pocket when Buddy returns to the ring and hits a dropkick. He hits a suicide dive next. Buddy catches his crossbody but Cassidy counters with a crossbody. Cassidy hits an Orange punch but Buddy rolls to the ropes. Cassidy covers him but he kicks out of the pin. Cassidy has hurt his hand and doctor checks on it. Buddy stomps at his arm before we cut to a break.

Buddy is working on Cassidy’s arm as we return from the break. Cassidy counters with kicks. Buddy catches his dive and goes for a suplex. Cassidy blocks it. Buddy goes for the same thing again and Cassidy blocks it again. Cassidy hits a few kicks on the apron. He looks for a DDT on the apron but Buddy blocks it and hits a superkick. Cassidy hits a beach break on the apron. They both fall down to the floor. The referee starts a countdown now. They beat the count after 9.

They trade forearm shots in the ring. Buddy blocks a shot and hits a combination of kicks. He stomps on Cassidy’s injured arm. Buddy hits lazy kicks to mock Cassidy. Cassidy hits a stundog millionaire. Cassidy takes Buddy to the top where Buddy picks him up on his shoulders. Cassidy counters with a DDT off the top. He hits a DDT on the floor after a tope suicida. He hits another diving DDT in the ring to get a near fall.

Buddy ducks the Orange punch and goes for a pumphandle slam. Cassidy counters and hits Orange punch. Buddy kicks out of the pin. Buddy grabs on his arm and hits a rising knee strike. Cassidy plays possum but Bubby avoids the Orange punch. Buddy hits a curbstomp on Cassidy for a near fall. Buddy ducks another punch but Cassidy puts him in mouse trap to get the pinfall.

Winner – Orange Cassidy

We get a vignette for Luchasaurus with Christian Cage where Cage says, “some things have changed”.


After the break, Best Friends are backstage and says they are jealous of Orange Cassidy defending his title every week. They challenge IWGP Tag Team Champions Aussie Open for next week’s show.

Hardy Contract Situation!

Ethan Page is in the ring and says he needs answers from Matt Hardy what he has put in his contract. Isiah Kassidy and Matt Hardy come out to the stage. Hardy says everyone should read fineprints in the contract. He reveals that the contract said that if Page wins, they would never be under the purview of The Firm. The contract also states that Hardy can pick and choose the date, location and stipulation for Page vs Hardy match, and his stipulation will be that Kassidy and Hardy will not be in The Firm if he wins.

Page says he is not the only one in The Firm. Big Bill attacks Kassidy and Hardy from behind. Page and Bill beat up Hardy and Kassidy for a while. Hook comes out and beats up Page. He goes for a suplex on Bill but Page blocks it. Lee Moriarty is also out as Page and Bill get Hook down. Jeff Hardy’s music hits and he runs out with a steel chair to make the save. He ends up hitting Swanton bomb on Page. Matt and Jeff hug in the ring as the crowd cheers.


We hear from Kenny Omega who addresses Blackpool Combat Club and talks about attack on The Young Bucks. Kenny says BCC crossed a line when they attacked Don Callis and left him in a pool of blood and concussed. Kenny says this feud is not just blood for blood now. He will do much worse with them next when he meet them face-to-face.

Blackpool Combat Club(Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli) vs Brondon Cutler & Michael Nakazawa

BCC attack Cutler and Nakazawa on the ramp itself. They throw them at ringside and hit them with steel chairs. Claudio slams Nakazawa’s face into the apron many times in succession. Claudio and Moxley stand tall in the ring. Nakazawa is split open on his forehead. He gets into the ring and the bell rings. Nakazawa gets up and punches Claudio. His punches are not having much affect. Nakazawa throws his shirt in anger and hits a series of punches to stagger Claudio. He runs the ropes but Claudio drops him with a clothesline.

Claudio puts on a giant swing on Nakazawa before putting a sharpshooter. Cutler comes in and breaks the submission with punches. Claudio sends Cutler back with big punches. Nakazawa counters a piledriver with a back body drop. Cutler gets the hot tag against Moxley and staggers him. Moxley runs him over with a king kong lariat. He hits deathrider and puts on bulldog choke. Nakazawa comes in and kicks at Moxley to break the submission. Claudio comes in and BCC beat up their opponents. Moxley puts on the bulldog choke and the referee calls for the match.

Winners – Blackpool Combat Club

They continue the beat down after the match as Wheeler Yuta also joins them. Moxley asks where Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks and Don Callis are? He says they put the Elite in All Elite Wrestling. Kenny Omega’s music hits and he comes out to the stage. Moxley comes out to the apron while Claudio and Yuta are still in the ring.

The Young Bucks come out from the crowd and hit superkicks on Claudio and Yuta. Moxley is beaten up by Omega. They have cornered Moxley and Matt Jackson brings out a flathead screwdriver and hands it to Omega. Omega charges at Moxley with it but Moxley is pulled to the floor. The screwdriver is stuck in the turnbuckle. BCC leaves through the crowd.

The Outcasts(Ruby Soho & Toni Storm) vs Riho & Skye Blue

The Outcasts jump on their opponents before the bell. Skye and Toni start the match. Toni hits some forearm shots. Skye hits a tijeras and a dropkick. Ruby and Riho get the tags. Riho hits a dropkick and avoids a trip. Ruby hits a kick at her back and then into her ribs. Riho hits another dropkick before bringing Skye in for double dropkicks to send Ruby to the floor. Toni comes in and is thrown to the floor. Skye helps Riho to hit a crossbody on both opponents on the floor. We cut to a break.

Ruby has Riho in a choke. She hits a big blow to the back when Riho breaks the choke. Riho ducks Ruby and tags in Blue. Blue hits some quick punches and a jawbreaker. She nails a rising knee strike. Toni takes a blind tag and kicks Skye from behind. Toni works on Skye on the ropes. She misses a hip attack and flla to the floor. Skye hits a superkick on Ruby on the apron. She hits Toni with a diving hurricanrana after a kicks on Saraya. Skye hits a crossbody on Toni. Ruby comes in and hits a suplex. Riho hits her with casadora. Ruby hits a crucifix bomb on Riho. Toni hits a hip attack on Skye in the corner before hitting Storm Zero to get the pinfall.

Winners – The Outcasts

The Outcasts write “L” on Riho and Skye after the match. They hit Riho with a triple powerbomb. Jamie Hayter runs out to make the save but numbers are against her. Britt Baker runs out and hits superkicks on Ruby and Toni. She gets into the ring to fight Saraya. Toni pulls out Saraya when Baker was going for a stomp.

Keith Lee vs Chris Jericho

Jericho starts with chops but Lee no-sells them. Lee drops him with a shoulder block. Lee kisses on Jericho’s head and Jericho is shocked. Lee pushes Jericho back to the mat and follows up with punches, back elbows and a headbutt. Jericho blocks overheadchops and hits a knee to midsection. He follows up with some chops. Lee hits back with a chop and some body shots in the corner.

Lee slams his head into the mat before hitting a corner splash. Another corner splash follows. Lee hits a body slam. Daniel Garcia gets up on the apron to distract Lee. Jericho brings Lee down from the second rope. He hits a springboard kick on the apron to knock Lee off the apron. We cut to a break.

Jericho is still in control as we return. He hits some chops. Lee throws him to the corner but Jericho gets his boot up before hitting a dropkick. Jericho hits a lionsault but Lee tosses him away to break the pinfall. Jericho stomps on him before Lee levels him with a clothesline. Lee hits a tackle and a corner splash. Garcia distracts LEe once again. Lee blocks Jericho and puts on a bear hug. Jericho breaks it quickly but Lee drops him with a lariat. Jericho slips out of powerbomb. Lee sends him flying with a big tackle.

Jericho gets his knees up on a moonsault from the second rope. Jericho ends up hurting his knee. Lee hits a spinebuster to get a two-count. Jericho blocks a powerbomb and rakes Lee’s eyes. Jericho puts on the Boston Crab/Liontamer/Walls of Jericho. Lee is struggling but he slowly drags towards the ropes. Jericho brings him away but Lee drags to the ropes on his second attempt. Lee hits double overhanded chops before tossing Jericho across the ring.

Jericho grabs the referee when Lee gets him up on the shoulder. Lee pulls Garcia into the ring and hits Jericho and him with a tackle. Lee blocks codebreaker and turns it into a powerbomb. Lee is slow to get to the cover. Garcia is in the ring once again and distracts the referee. A masked man hits Lee with a title belt. Jericho covers Lee and gets the pinfall.

Winner – Chris Jericho

After the match, the masked man is revealed to be Swerve Strickland. Jericho and Garcia hug in the ring. Lee is down on the floor. Adam Cole comes out to check on Lee. He goes back with Lee to close the show.
