Thiago Moises vs Melquizael Costa UFC 283

Thiago Moisés has a new opponent for UFC 283 PPV as Melquizael Costa has stepped in on short notice.

Moisés was supposed to face Guram Kutateladze at the event earlier, but Kutateladze pulled out with an unknown reason. MMA Fighting has now reported that Moisés and Costa have verbally agreed to a lightweight bout on UFC 283.

Melquizael Costa will be making his UFC debut with this bout. He was last active to headline LFA 147 in November to defeat Junior Melo. He has a 19-5 record in pro-MMA, including 7 wins in his last 8 bouts.

Thiago Moisés has been with UFC since 2018 when he was signed on after showing Dana White Contender Series. He is currently 5-4 in UFC so far and suffered back-to-back losses in 2021 against Islam Makhachev and Joel Álvarez. He snapped that skid by beating Christos Giagos at a Fight Night event in June 2022.

Moisés has previously defeated the likes of Bobby Green, Alexander Hernandez and Michael Johnson. This will be the second time that Moisés will appear for UFC in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He defeated Kurt Holobaugh at UFC 237 PPV in 2019.

UFC 283 will take place at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 21, 2023. The event will feature by two title fights. Glover Teixeira will fight Jamahal Hill in the main event for the vacant Light Heavyweight Championship. Champion Deiveson Figueiredo and interim champion Brandon Moreno clash in their tetralogy bout to unify the flyweight title.
