Khamzat Chimaev vs Kamaru Usman Targeted for UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi
Khamzat Chimaev finally gets the name of his next opponent, and it will be none other than the former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
According to the latest reports, a welterweight bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Kamaru Usman is being targeted for the UFC 294 PPV event on October 21 in Abu Dhabi.
Khamzat Chimaev himself revealed this matchup on his Youtube channel. Both these fighters wanted this match for quite a while, and now it seems like it will finally happen.
Khamzat Chimaev is coming off a first-round submission win against Kevin Holland at UFC 279 in September 2022. Before that, he defeated Gilbert Burns via unanimous decision at UFC 273 in one of the best fights of the year.
On the other hand, Kamaru Usman has been one of the most dominating welterweight champions so far, but his winning streak was snapped by Leon Edwards at UFC 278 in August 2022. Usman failed to win the title in the rematch when he faced Edwards again at UFC 286 in March 2023.
Usman vs Chimaev is certainly a huge matchup at 170 lbs, and it will be pretty interesting to see whether Kamaru Usman will be able to deliver Khamzat Chimaev his first-ever UFC loss or not.
