Michael Chandler(22-7) and Tony Ferguson(25-6) are expected to be heading for a clash at UFC 274.
The bout between the two veteran lightweights was confirmed by Arial Helwani in his recent The Ringer MMA show on Spotify.
Both men are coming off significant losses in their last few bouts. While Chandler made a victorious debut against Dan Hooker, he has since lost the vacant lightweight title bout to Charles Oliviera at UFC 264 via TKO before a unanimous decision loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 268.
Tony Ferguson has also lost his last three bouts against highly ranked opponents. First, he lost the interim lightweight title bout to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. This was followed by losses unanimous decision losses to Charles Oliviera(UFC 256) and Beniel Dariush(UFC 262).
Chandler said earlier this week that he is assuming and preparing for a fight against Ferguson in this summer. “I don’t know the exact date or the location, but that’s who I’m training for,” told CBS Sports. “That’s who I’m watching film of. That’s who I’m thinking of fighting. Getting in shape, laying a good groundwork, good foundation right now to go into a nice hard training camp for a fight this summer. I’m all systems go for a Tony Ferguson fight.”
UFC 274 is currently targeted for May 7 from an unannounced location. The event already has two title fights announced with Glover Teixeira defending the Light Heavyweight title against Jiri Prochazka and Charles Oliviera defending the Lightweight title against Justin Gaethje.
