Bellator 290 was Bellator’s first event in 2023. It was also the first Bellator event to air on CBS and Paramount Plus Streaming service. It was also the first MMA event to air on CBS since 2010.
The event was headlined by a heavyweight title bout between Ryan Bader and Fedor Emelianenko. This was Fedor’s retirement bout and a rematch between Fedor and Bader. Bader defeated Fedor in the first bout at Bellator 214 in January 2019. Bader defended Bellator Heavyweight title for the third time in this bout.
In the co-main event, Johnny Eblen made his first defense of the middleweight title against Anatoly Tokov. Eblen won the title from Gerard Mousasi at Bellator 282 in a major upset. Tokov was undefeated in Bellator so far with 7 wins in a row.
The main card also saw Sabah Homasi vs Brennan Ward bout. The prelims featured 11 bouts with the likes of Neiman Gracie, Lorenz Larkin, and Akhmed Magomedov, among others on the card.
