Josh Taylor Reportedly Agreed for WBO Title Rematch Against Catterall
According to the latest reports, a Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall rematch would take place very soon.
ESPN reported that Josh Taylor has agreed to face Jack Catterall in a WBO junior welterweight title rematch after retaining the undisputed junior welterweight title earlier this year via a controversial split decision victory.
Taylor received a lot of outrage from the public including death threats due to the judging. The undisputed champion was even dropped from ESPN’s pound-to-pound rankings following a poor performance against Catterall.
Since the obligations for mandatory title defenses for IBF, WBA & WBC titles were increasing, Taylor was forced to vacate those three titles in order to secure a rematch with Catterall.
According to Taylor, they are very close to finalizing the contracts and dates, and everything is in the hands of lawyers now. The date is yet to be decided but it is likely that it would take place in February next year in Scotland.
Catterall faced his first career loss at the hands of Taylor. However, according to many experts, Catterall displayed some clean punching and had done enough to win the bout, but he still ended up losing on the judges’ scorecards with a split decision.
Taylor even changed his trainer ahead of the rematch, whereas Catterall is desperately waiting for an opportunity to get his hands on Taylor again.
