Welcome to the live results blog for WWE SmackDown April 7, 2023 episode which featured a singles match between Sami Zayn and Jey Uso in the fallout of WrestleMania 39.

Sami & Kevin Owens defeated The Usos at WrestleMania 39. This singles match might push the storyline towards a rematch at Backlash 2023. WWE Cheif Content Officer Triple H addressed the fans for an announcement.

Another champion who was celebrating the title win was Rhea Ripley who, as the preview said, was ready to claim her throne after beating “The Queen” Charlotte Flair. Gunther, Lugwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci of Imperium took on Sheamus, Butch and Ridge Holland of The Brawling Brutes.

Latino World Order’s Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar faced Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio and Damian Priest. Judgment Day interfered in Rey’s match on RAW this week and also beat up Bad Bunny.

RESULTS

  • The Brawling Brutes(Sheamus, Butch & Ridge Holland) defeated Imperium(Gunther, Lugwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci) in a tag team match via pinfall.
  • Ricochet defeated Ivar in a singles match via pinfall.
  • Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan defeated Natalya & Shotzi in a tag team match via pinfall.
  • Judgment Day(Dominik Mysterio & Damian Priest) defeated Latino World Order(Rey Mysterio & Santos Escobar) in a tag team match via pinfall.

The show kicks off with a lengthy recap of WrestleMania 39.

Imperium(Gunther, Lugwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci) vs The Brawling Brutes(Sheamus, Butch & Ridge Holland)

Vinci starts with waistlock takedowns. Butch replies with an armdrag and a clothesline. Butch nails a big punch before tagging in Ridge. Ridge nails a punch. Vinci hits a crossbody after ducking a clothesline. Kaiser comes in for a kick to the back and an uppercut. Ridge hits a big punch and tags in Butch. Kaiser quickly tags in Vinci and Butch stomps on his arm. Gunther goes to argue with Sheamus to distract the referee. Vinci and Kaiser double team behind their back to hit a suplex on Butch. Sheamus intimidates them out of the ring to take us to a break.

Gunther is in control over Butch. Butch goes for a jawbreaker but Gunther kicks at his back. Gunther knocks off Sheamus from the apron before going for a sleeper choke on Butch. Butch lands on his feet off a suplex and hits a kick to back. Ridge and Kaiser get the tags. Ridghe hits some suplexes. Vinci goes for a double underhook but Ridge overpowers with a fallaway slam. Imperium get the quick tags and hits a triple dropkick on Ridge. Ridge tries to fight back but runs into a chop from Gunther. Gunther knocks off Sheamus again before hitting a powerbomb on Ridge. Butch breaks the pin.

Gunther throws him to the floor and puts on Boston Crab on Ridge. Ridge drags to the corner and tags in Sheamus. Sheamus hits quick punches before a running powerslam on Gunther. Sheamus hits 10 beats of Beltran on Gunther on the apron. Gunther ducks Brogue kick and hits a boot to the face. Sheamus blocks a powerbomb to hit White Noise for a near fall. Butch hits a step-up enzuigiri on Butch. Vinci and Kaiser hit Ridge with high-low after Gunther tags out. Butch hits a moonsault on Kaiser on the floor. Sheamus hits a big clothesline and a Brogue kick on Vinci to get the pinfall.

Winners – The Brawling Brutes

We get a recap of Brock Lesnar agreeing to team up with Cody Rhodes and then turning on him.


Kayla Braxton is backstage with special counsel Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa. Kayla asks if Paul knows why Brock Lesnar did what he did. Paul diverts the subject and starts to talk about Roman Reigns and how The Bloodline main event both nights of WrestleMania. Jey Uso comes in and asks Solo and Paul if they know where Jimmy is. Paul tells him that Jimmy is not here as Roman wanted him to watch it on TV how Jey defeats Sami and goes on to solve The Sami Zayn Problem. Jey is not happy hearing that. After Jey leaves, Paul tells Solo that either Jey solves Sami Problem or Solo should solve their problems.

Ricochet vs Ivar

Just Valhalla is ringside for this match. Ricochet fires quick punches. Ivar sends him to the corner. More quick moves from Ricochet before he hits a hurricanrana to send Ivar to the floor. Ivar catches Ricochet’s dive and drives him into the barricade. He hits crossbody against the apron. He brings Ricochet back into the ring and hits back elbow shots. Ivar puts Ricochet on the top rope now. Ricochet fights back with big blows to the back.

Ricochet goes for a sunset flip but Ivar is too big for him. Ivar picks up Ricochet for a suplex but Ricochet lands on his feet. Ivar hits a big forearm. Ricochet hits back with dropkick on Ivar. He tries to pick up Ivar but fails. Ivar hits a spinning heel kick to get a two-count. Ivar goes to the top. Ricochet hits some shots to stop him on the top. Ricochet hits a hurricanrana from the top rope. He hits a shooting star press to get the pinfall.

Winner – Ricochet

Kevin Owens is staring at the tag team titles when Sami Zayn walks in. Sami tells him that he was doing the same thing earlier. KO says this is a big night as Sami can put the Bloodline stuff behind them tonight after beating Jey. Sami says he does not have a good feeling about it, and wants to talk to Jey. Sami says they have led to the crumbling of The Bloodline but something feels off. KO asks Sami if he thinks that Jey would talk to him after they have taken the titles from them. Sami says KO is right and he would go on to talk to Jey. KO is confused.

Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan vs Natalya & Shotzi

Natalya and Raquel start the match. Shotzi tags in quickly. Natalya counters a powerbomb attempt with a hurricanrana to send Raquel to the floor. Shotzi hits a suicide dive on Raquel on the floor. Raquel counters and takes control over Shotzi. Liv tags in and hits knees on Shotzi. She hits a flatliner to get a two-count. Natalya tags in to go back and forth with Liv. Natalya hits a German suplex and a discus clotheslines. Things break down as everyone starts to get involved. Natalya and Shotzi go for the Hart Foundation on Liv but Raquel blocks it. Liv hits Oblivion on Shotzi to get the pinfall.

Winner – Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan

LA Knight interrupts Xavier Woods and Madcap Moss as they were playing WWE 2K23. Knight is upset about not being on WrestleMania and complains about Woods just playing video games. Woods complains about Knight just complaining. Woods says he can beat Knight once again just like few weeks ago. Knight throws away his controller. Moss holds Woods back as Knight leaves.

Triple H Announcement

Triple H makes his entrance amid cheers from the crowd. He takes the mic after his music stops. The crowd is hot for him. He says there is nothing in the world like WrestleMania where the best athletes from around the world come in for a showcase. He says it is a night where dreams are broken and dreams are made. He goes on to talk about how successful WrestleMania was this year which included almost a billion views on digital views. But, now it is time to look at the future.

Triple H announces WWE Draft will be coming in the next few weeks where every single superstar will be eligible. He claims that this year’s draft will change the game. Triple H then brings in Rhea Ripley. Rhea makes her way out with the rest of Judgment Day. Triple H shakes hands with all of them on the ramp on his way out.

Judgment Day is Here!

Rhea takes the mic and says sports entertainment changed forever on April 1 when she defeated Charlotte Flair, a 14-time champion. She asks everyone to rise for her, calling herself the biggest star and the greatest champion. Finn Balor says it’s time to talk about Edge. He wonders what kind of sicko has to split open his head. However, Edge is nowhere to be seen while Balor is still here.

Dominik takes the mic and the crowd does not let him speak with heavy boos. Everytime he starts to talk, the crowd boos him heavily. Rhea tells him something in his ears. Dominik says he pulled his punches at WrestleMania because he knew he could not hurt his father. But, he can’t say the same thing for Rey and he could see anger in his eyes. He knows where the lines are drawn and his family can go to hell and can also take Bad Bunny and his little friends with him.

We get a recap of Bad Bunny’s involvement with The Mysterios at WrestleMania 39 and RAW. Damian Priest takes the mic now and says something to Bad Bunny in Spanish. Priest says he hopes Bunny can forgive him because he has forgiven Bunny for what Bunny has forced him to do. Rey Mysterio’s music hits and he comes out with Latino World Order.

Latino World Order(Rey Mysterio & Santos Escobar) vs Judgment Day(Dominik Mysterio & Damian Priest)

Priest starts with big shots against Rey. He sends Rey to the corner and hits more punches. Dominik tags in and continues to beat up his dad. Dominik hits a hard whip into the corner. He unloads with quick punches before a snap suplex to get a two-count. Rey counters with a big boot in the corner. Rey hits a back elbow and jumps over Dominik to tag in Escobar.

Escobar hits a leg scissors takedown before a crossbody from the top. Escobar hits back-to-back backbreakers. Rey hits a hurricanrana on Priest to send him to the floor. Rey hits a suicide dive on Dominik while Escobar does the same to Priest. Escobar picks Rey on his shoulder as they pose to take us to a break.

Priest is in control over Escobar as we return from the break. Escobar tries to fire back with punches but Priest hits him with bell clap before slamming him to the mat. Dominik tags in and puts on a front face lock. Escobar pushes Dominik towards the corner. Dominik hits a knee to midsection to stop him. Escobar hits a back body drop and tags in Rey. Rey runs over Dominik before knocking off Priest. Rey hits a hurricanrana before a back body drop.

Dominik counters with a Michinoku driver to get a two-count. Rey rolls through and hits a dropkick. He hits a basement dropkick on Priest on the floor. He hits a DDT on Dominik before setting up for 619. Rhea pulls Dominik away from 619. Zelina Vega hits Rhea with a hurricanrana. Rhea chases after Zelina into the crowd. Priest tags in but Rey sends him to the floor. Rey hits 619 on Dominik. Escobar picks up Dominik for Phantom Driver but Priest is the legal man and comes in to hit a chokeslam to get the pinfall.

Winner – Judgment Day

Sami Zayn is searching for Jey Uso backstage. We cut to a break.


Shinsuke Nakamura is announced to return next week.


Sami Zayn reaches Jey Uso and tells him that everything he has said until now has happened. They have won tag team titles, and now Roman is bailing on them while Solo is ready to drop hammer on him anytime. We hear something crashing in the background. Sami runs towards it and Solo Sikoa has dropped a crate on Kevin Owens’ leg. Sami pulls the crate away from Owens. Paul Heyman and other crew members take Solo away. Sami and Adam Pearce call for a stretcher. Jey is also on the spot now. Jey’s music hits and he goes out to the ring for the main event.

After the break, Sami is interviewed backstage and say KO is in the medical room and is not able to go out with him. Sami says KO was right in saying that The Bloodline is more dangerous than ever now. But, they will find out Sami Zayn’s wrath tonight. Sami makes his entrance for the match.

Sami Zayn vs Jey Uso

They lock up and comes to a stalemate quickly as Sami takes Jey to the corner. Jey pushes Sami back before they lock up. Jey takes Sami to the corner now. Sami tries to tell Jey again that The Bloodline is crumbling. Jey puts on a side headlock and hits a back body drop. Sami hits a big forearm before more shots and a clothesline to send Jey to the floor. Sami looks for a suicide dive when he sees Solo Sikoa coming out to ringside. Sami stares down at Solo as we cut to another break.

Jey is on the top rope. Sami hits him with some punches. They trade punches on the top before Sami hits an exploder from the top. Sami nails him more punches as they get up. Jey hits back with some kicks before an enzuigiri. Sami hits a kick to midsection. He goes for a dive from the top but Jey cuts him off with a superkick. Jey picks up Sami and asks him how many times he has to beat him up. Sami counters with an exploder into the turnbuckles.

Sami gets ready for Helluva kick but Jey ducks it. Sami is able to hit blue thunderbomb to get a near fall. Sami hits more punches before going to the top. Jey hits him with an enzuigiri. Jey goes to the top but Sami blocks a superplex. Sami hits blow to Jey’s spine on the top. Jey hits a headbutt to knock Sami off the top. The referee separates Jey from Sami on the ropes. Solo hits a Samoan spike on Sami behind the referee’s back. Jey pulls Sami into the ring and hits a dropkick to get the pinfall.

Winner – Jey Uso

After the match, Solo gets into the ring and starts beating up Sami with headbutts and then with punches. Solo goes to hit another Samoan Spike on Sami but Jey stops him. Solo and Jey face off. Sami gets back to his knees. Jey nails a superkick on Sami. Solo goes to bring in a steel chair. Matt Riddle’s music hits and he runs out. Riddle hits a ripcord knee on Jey. He knocks Solo off the apron. Jey and Solo retreat to the ramp as the show goes off the air.
