WWE SmackDown 16 April 2021 Results

Welcome to our live blog for WWE Friday Night SmackDown episode of 16 April 2021 which will deal with the fall out from WrestleMania 37 and will build-up towards WrestleMania Backlash 2021 PPV.

WWE is advertising two matches till now. One is the SmackDown Tag Team Championship match between The Dirty Dawgs & The Street Profits. The other is a singles match between Rey Mysterio & Otis. Other than this, the fallout from the Universal title, SmackDown title, and Intercontinental title matches is also expected to take place on the show. We have covered all this in-depth in the preview for this show here.

WWE SmackDown 16 April 2021 Quick Results

  • Rey Mysterio defeated Otis via pinfall.
  • Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn via counout.
  • The Dirty Dawgs(Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode) defeated The Street Profits(Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) to retain WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match via pinfall.
  • Natalya defeated Shayna Baszler via pinfall.
  • Cesaro defeeated Jey Uso via pinfall.

Who will Step-up to Roman Reigns?

Roman Reigns comes out with Paul Heyman and Jey Uso. He takes his sweet time to enter the ring. The Thunderdome crowd boos Roman heavily. Roman says he called his shot that he will win the match and did it. Paul Heyman talks about how Edge is Hall of Famer while Bryan will be in HOF one day and how both of their wives are also in the Hall of Fame.

Roman says WWE will never book him in a triple threat now and wonders who will step up to him now? He says standing up to him is not worth it because of how dangerous he is. Roman goes to leave when Cesaro’s music hits. Cesaro comes out to the ring but Roman’s entourage leaves. Cesaro gets stood up.

Cesaro catches up with Sonya Deville & Adam Pearce backstage. He says that SOB Roman Reign just ignored him and he wants a match against Roman next. Adam Pearce was about to say something, but Sonya tells him she will talk to Roman.

Otis vs Rey Mysterio

Otis with a big splash to start. He throws Rey from a military press. He sends Rey out of the ring but Rey lands on his feet and getssome offence going from the apron. Otis trops him at the turnbuckle. He misses a running tackle and goes into the turnbuckle. Rey with a drop the dime. He goes for a springboard crossbody but Otis catches him and slams him to the mat. Otis misses the top rope splash. Rey drops him on the ropes for 619 and hits it. Rey goes to the top but Otis is on his feet already. Rey gets him in a crucifix pin to get the three count.

Winner – Rey Mysterio

After the match, Rey quickly runs away to the floor to Dominik. He runs his mouth from the stage now. Otis and Chad Gable watch from the ring in anger.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton is seen with Paul Heyman talking about something.

After the break, Kayla asks him whether Roman will face Cesaro tonight. Paul goes on a rant against Cesaro, says he has 10 cent mind in a million dollar body and that Rollins had to go down to face him at WrestleMania. He then says Cesaro will get his match and will face Main Event Jey Uso.

Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens

Sami Zayn comes out and says everyone was against him at WrestleMania. Logan Paul, who was his Guest of Honor, was manipulated by these corporates and Kevin Owens. He says he was also distracted by thinking of Logan. He asks KO to come out. KO comes out and it looks like we will get a rematch.

The bells rings and Sami goes to the floor right away. Owens goes after him and Sami gets back to the ring. KO catches Sami and slams his face to the announce table. Back to the ring, KO with some chops. Sami with a forearm and whips him to the other corner. KO explodes out with clothesline. Another clothesline gets him a two-count.

Sami catches him with a punch from the apron and drops his face on the ropes. Sami in control for the next minute. KO with a big chop but Sami boots him in the corner. KO hits big punches but Sami hits a headbutt. He goes for a kick from the ropes but KO once again hits a clothesline. KO misses a senton from the top but still takes him to the top. Sami fights back to hit a sunset flip powerbomb.

After the break, Sami is at the top and misses a move to run into a superkick. KO hits the senton. Sami rolls out to the floor for a breather. KO sends him into the barricade. He foes for the pop-up powerbomb but Sami counters and goes for the German. KO hits a brainbuster on his knee. Sami avoids a stunner and goes to the floor. He decks KO with a punch from the apron and drags him over to the ramp. The referee counts to 10 and Sami has no intention to return to the ring. KO gets the win.

Winner – Kevin Owens

After the match, Owens goes and brings Sami back to the ring. KO hits a stunner on Sami to end the segment.

New WWE Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews is backstage with Commander Azeez, who is with Crews’ large spear. Crews gloats on his WrestleMania 37 title win. He says he would give Big E a rematch tonight but he is not here. Crews says Commander Azeez is a former member of the Nigerian Elite Guard and if anyone dares to come for his title, they will be annihilated by the Nigerian Nail(spear).

Bianca Belair Celebration Party with Street Profits

The Street Profits comes out for SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair’s big celebration on WrestleMania win. We go back to commercial.

The Street Profits hype their title match and say they are in for spring clearing of tag teams on SmackDown. Montez Ford says he has got some inspiration this weekend at WrestleMania, something which he will tell his grand kids about. We see a replay of Bianca Belair winning the SmackDown Women’s Chamapionship.

Bianca comes out with a grand introduction from his husband Montez Ford as the crowd cheers. Bianca talks about how overwhelming her week was since winning the title. She says she never stopped believing and was never apologetic about her dreams. She thanks Sasha and says there is no one else she would have shared the spotlight with as they both made history. Belair continues with the promo talking about more motivational stuff before asking Street Profits to get their titles back.

Kayla Braxton is backstage with Sasha Banks. Braxton goes to ask her about Bianca but Banks shushes her and shows off mark on her stomach from Bianca’s hair strike. Banks is so angry and she could not even speechless. She walks off angrily.

Kayla is backstage with Bayley now. She says Sasha Banks must want a rematch and that’s why she is so angry. Bayley says she was busy trying to save WrestleMania with her segment, Bianca Belair was crying before the main event even happened. Now Bianca is showboating and being arrogant. The only way to fix this for Bayley to challenge Bianca and take the SmackDown Women’s Title.

The Dirty Dawgs(c) vs The Street Profits – WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship

Ziggler starts off with Dawkins. They trade holds and go to the ropes as the referee calls the stalemate. Ziggler comes with a back elbow and a dropkick. Dawkins replies with a big punch. Ford tags in to hits a dropkick and gets hyped for a two-count. Ford and Dawkins with quick tags as they keep Ziggler under control. Ziggler tags in Roode but they collide and both go down. Ford sends Ziggler to the floor while Dawkins takes down Roode in the ring.

After the break, Roode hits a big spinebuster on Dawkins. Ziggler comes in for a neckbreaker. Quick tags continue. Ziggler taunts Ford now. Dawkins catches Ziggler and alabama slams him into the turnbuckle. Ford with a hot tag and runs over Roode on the other corner.

Side suplex, kip-up, standing moonsault for a two-count. Ford with a suicide dive to take down both opponents. Dawkins tags in to hit a big slam on Roode. Ford hits the frog splash. Ziggler breaks the pin and sends Dawkins out with a clothesline. Ford goes after Roode but Ziggler has taken the tag. Ziggler catches Ford with Zig Zag and gets the pin.

Winner – The Dirty Dawgs(retain tag team titles)

Another replay of Cesaro’s UFO to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania. Kayla is backstage with Cesaro now who accepts criticism by Paul Heyman earlier but says Heyman is wrong about one thing and that he does belong in the ring with Roman Reigns. And he is going to prove that tonight by beating Jey Uso.

Roman Reigns looks annoyed as he talks to Paul Heyman backstage. Jey Uso paces behind them. Reigns tells Jey to teach Cesaro a lesson tonight.

Natalya vs Shayna Baszler

The match starts with Tamina Snuka and Nia Jax at ringside in their tag team partners’ corners. They avoid each others’ moves to start. Nia goes for a Sharpshooter but Jax drags Baszler to the floor. Tamina yells at the referee for this. Natalya takes Baszler down before they trade more holds. More back and forth action. Baszler goes to stomp Nattie’s arm but Tamina pulls her out.

Jax now argues with Tamina here. Baszler levels Natalya with a big knee strike for a two-count. Natalya with a back elbow, back and forth and Natalya hits a discus forearm. She goes for a Sharpshooter but Jax distracts from the apron. Baszler kicks Natalya to the mouth. She goes for the Kirifuda Clutch but Natalya rolls her Baszler up for the pin to win.

Winner – Natalya

We get another replay of Cesaro’s UFO to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania. Backstage, Jey Uso is still pacing around backstage. Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman are staring at the camera. Uso says he is going to show Cesaro why he is called Main Event Jey Uso.

Jey Uso vs Cesaro

Jey Uso enters and the Andre the Giant Trophy is at ringside. Jey shows his name at the plaque as we go to replay how Jey won the Battle Royal last week. Cesaro makes his entrance.

The match starts and Cesaro slams Jey to the mat. They run the ropes and Cesaro hits a backbreaker. Uso goes to the apron and slams Cesaro’s hands into the turnbuckle. He works on the arm using the ropes. Cesaro drops him to the floor. Jey catches him midair with a superkick as we go to the break.

Cesaro is trying to make a comeback but Jey hits a Samoan Drop to get a two-count. Jey with a bid uppercut before he works on Cesaro’s arm. Cesaro blocks a suplex and counters to hit vertical suplex himself from deadlift. Cesaro sells his arm before charging at Uso. Cesaro with a big punch and crossbody to get a two-count.

Uso slams his arm to the floor and a superkick to get a two count. Uso with a hip attack in the corner. Jey goes to the top now and Cesaro recovers to hit a dropkick on him there. Cesaro goes for the superplex but Jey with bodyshot stops him. Cesaro hits avalanche gutwrench suplex to Uso for a near fall.

Jey counters the neutralizer but Cesaro hits a corkscrew upper cut to get another near fall. Cesaro goes for the swing but Uso counters. Cesaro misses an uppercut and Uso hits a neckbreaker for a two-count. Uso with big punches to the head. Cesaro hypes up and returns with quick strikes and hits a discuss lariat. Cesaro goes for the swing and turns Uso around for 5 times before Seth Rollins ambushes him.

Winner – Cesaro(via DQ)

Seth goes back to the stage as Cesaro recovers in the ring. Rollins shouts that Cesaro got lucky one time and this is not over until he says it is over. The show goes off the air as Rollins keeps shouting at Cesaro
