Payback 2020: Roman Reigns Wins Universal Championship

Roman Reigns Universal Championship Payback 2020

Many predicted the outcome but not the manner in which it happened. Roman Reigns holds the WWE Universal title once again after two years but this is Roman Reigns in a never seen before avatar. There were rumors that the Big Dog has turned heel after becoming the “Paul Heyman” guy. And those rumors were confirmed when WWE added the booing sound as Roman held the title up in the air.

The main event at Payback 2020 PPV was supposed to be a triple threat No Holds Barred match with The Fiend Bray Wyatt defending the title against Braun Strowman and Roman. However, for the most part, only two men were competing. Roman has denied to sign the contract on SmackDown and was nowhere to be found at Payback also.

As the Fiend completed his entrance, he was run over by Strowman. Roman was nowhere to be seen when the referee called for the bell. The Fiend and Strowman battled all around the ring in a much more brutal contest than what we saw at SummerSlam last week. As if the use of mallet and steel steps was not enough, Strowman speared The Fiend taking him down the ramp.

Strowman tried to go up top when they returned to the ring, but it proved costly. The Fiend grabbed him and hit a superplex which destroyed the ring and knocked down the referee.

Roman Reigns’ music finally hit and he came out with Paul Heyman. Heyman handed him the match contract at the ramp and Roman approached the ring with a steel chair in hand. Both Strowman and Fiend kicked out of the pins after Roman had to wait for a new referee. Roman went on to punish Strowman some more before The Fiend caught him with the Mandible claw. Roman used a low blow to get rid of The Fiend and then speared Strowman to win the match.

Last week at SummerSlam, The Fiend defeated Braun Strowman to win the Universal Championship. Just after the match, Roman made his return by attacking both men. On SmackDown this Friday, it was then revealed that Roman has sided with Paul Heyman now and has eventually turned heel.
