SummerSlam 2020: Roman Reigns Return Dampens Fiend Title Win

SummerSlam 2020 Roman Reigns Returns

This years’ SummerSlam PPV closed with Roman Reigns standing over the Fiend, raising the Universal title over their head. Reigns returned to WWE after a self-imposed 5 months hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic complications.

The Fiend Bray Wyatt challenged Braun Strowman in a Falls Count Anywhere match at SummerSlam 2020’s main event. After a hard-hitting (also read tedious) match, The Fiend struck twice with Sister Abigail on the exposed ring floor to win the Universal Championship.

But the night was not over for either competitor. Just as The Fiend was wrapping up the title celebration, Roman ran in and speared him. He also went on to hit a spear on Strowman who was recovering at the ringside before raining down with chair shots. Reigns went back to the ring to spear The Fiend once again.

Roman did all of this while showing a cocky attitude which included telling Strowman that it was due to him that Strowman was termed the monster and shouting at Wyatt that he is just a freak in a mask.

Roman removed himself from WWE after the COVID-19 pandemic affected the world. He was in line for a Universal Championship title shot against Goldberg at WrestleMania 36. However, he gave precedence to his family’s safety, which consists of his young children, and decided against travelling to WWE tapings during the pandemic.

With SmackDown’s TV rating down significantly, it was expected Roman will make his return sooner rather than later. It looks like Roman will now go after The Fiend for the same Universal Championship.
