Ricky Starks Wins Eliminator Tournament, To Face MJF at Winter is Coming
The World Championship match is set for AEW Winter Is Coming Dynamite special.
Ricky Starks won World Title Eliminator Tournament by beating Ethan Page in the final. He will now challenge AEW World Champion MJF on December 14, 2022.
Page targeted Starks’ injuries that he suffered in the last two weeks in the lead-up to the final. Starks was attacked backstage by Lance Archer two weeks back before Archer aggravated those injuries by slamming Starks on a steel step with a chokeslam after their match at Rampage last week. Brian Cage further tried to use Starks’ injured ribs to his advantage, but Starks was able to get a win over him on Full Gear pre-show.
Page was continuously aiming for Starks’ ribs to control a major portion of the match. Starks finally made an opening with a suplex and went for a dive. But Stokely Hathaway dove in to grab Page out of the way and was thrown from the ringside. With a final spear, Starks claimed the title match for himself.
On the way to the finals, Starks defeated Brian Cage and Lance Archer, while Page defeated Bandido and Eddie Kingston.
MJF was absent from this week’s Dynamite to react to Starks’ win and their upcoming match. But, expect some harsh comments and trash from the AEW Champion when he addresses the crowd next week.
Apart from MJF vs Ricky Starks, match 4 between The Elites and Death Triangle in their Best of 7 Series will also take place at Winter is Coming 2022. Keep tuned in for more news and updates.
