Rey Mysterio To Star in Lucha Libre Animated Series on Cartoon Networ
WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio is getting his own animated series which will air on Cartoon Network Latin America.
The new series was announced at the 2020 Pixelatl Festival where Cartoon Network Latin America announced the series. The channel announced an agreement with Viva Calavera! Creative Studio to produce the animated project with Rey Mysterio working as the protagonist.
Viva Calavera! is known for developing creative and beautiful artwork, with animation, video games, among other projects. Mighty Animation studio will also be joining the project for animation work.
According to Lucha Central, the series will combine the excitement and adrenaline of lucha libre wrestling with mystery, mythology, history, magic, and supernatural beings. The official synopsis reads:
Rey Mysterio will tell the story of one of the most iconic luchador, a figure admired by all and star of the ring, but he will also delve into a great secret: unimaginable forces threaten our world and he will be a fundamental part of that fight. When their number one fan discovers this secret, together they will immerse themselves in a world where the excitement and adrenaline of wrestling coexists with mystery, mythology, history, magic and supernatural beings.
Rey Mysterio has also added his comments on the news: “After 35 years of career and multiple achievements, I was still missing something. I always wanted an animated series with the character of Rey Mysterio and when the idea was presented to me, I was immediately captivated. Working with Cartoon Network has been incredible, I can’t think of anyone better than this group to make this project a reality.”
Rey Mysterio is one of the most famous luchador in wrestling history with a career spanning over 30 years. Working with WWE, he has been a Grand Slam Champion, winning WWE Champioship, World Heavyweight, United States and Intercontinental Championship along with several tag team titles, Cruiserwieght championship and Royal Rumble match in 2006.
Rey Mysterio recently suffered a torn triceps injury at WWE Payback PPV. The injury is forcing for his to spend a month or two on the sidelines. Rey was replaced by his son Dominik for singles match against Seth Rollins on this Monday’s WWE RAW.
