Rey Mysterio Beats Theory, Wins United States Title on SmackDown August 11
Rey Mysterio defeated Austin Theory for WWE United States Championship on the August 11, 2023 episode of WWE SmackDown.
During the August 11 episode of SmackDown, Santos Escobar was scheduled to face Austin Theory for the United States Championship match, but during the backstage interview with Escobar, Theory attacked him from behind and injured his left knee.
Later in the show, Theory made his appearance outside the trainer’s room to declare that Escobar would not compete against him. But, Mysterio rushed out and confirmed that Escobar is ready to compete.

During the scheduled match, as Escobar made his entrance, he was once again attacked by Theory, who went after his previously injured knee. Shortly thereafter, Adam Pearce made the announcement that Rey Mysterio would step in to compete against Theory for the United States Championship match.
During the match, Rey Mysterio exhibits his finest aerial moves, demonstrating his supremacy in the ring. At the end of the match, Mysterio successfully hit the 619 to become the new United States Champion.
Mysterio has now secured the United States Championship for the third time. Mysterio’s win brought an end to Austin Theory’s 221-day reign as the US title holder.
