Roman Reigns has a surprise challenger for WWE Royal Rumble 2022.
Roman Reigns was short of challengers after Brock Lesnar had won the WWE Championship at Day 1 event last week. WWE was probably planning his next feud with Jeff Hardy and Drew McIntyre, but both men are not available due to different reasons.
Jeff Hardy was released by the promotion last month due to alleged substance use issues and declining rehabilitation. Drew McIntyre had some lingering neck issues in recent times and is out of action indefinitely. As The Tribal Cheif has already run through many top contenders, WWE was left short of the option for his next opponent. It was rumored earlier this week that WWE will look to bring down someone from RAW to fill that spot.
Midway into this week’s SmackDown, Adam Pearce revealed that WWE Management has told him to find Roman’s opponent for Royal Rumble 2022 event. Pearce went to Roman before the main event match to inform him about his challenger. However, Roman said he is not interested in knowing who his opponent is. Roman added no one from SmackDown is on his level.
The Head of the Table then watched The Usos retain their SmackDown Tag Team Championship over New Day in the main event match. Just as that match wound up, someone knocked on his door. Roman asked that person to enter. And that person turned out to be none other than Roman’s former Shield teammate Seth Rollins. Although, WWE has not confirmed this match until now.
Roman was earlier supposed to defend the Univeral Championship against Brock Lesnar at Day 1. However, that match was canceled after Roman tested positive for COVID-19. Brock was then added to the WWE Championship match and went on to win the title.
Earlier in the night, Brock confronted the Universal Champion and challenged him for a title vs title match. Roman declined the offer saying that he would deal with trash like Paul Heyman. After some argument, Roman nailed Lesnar with a superman punch and left the ring.
Keep tuned in for the latest news and updates from the Royal Rumble event.
