Changes Coming for AEW Battle of the Belts Due to Medical Protocol

AEW is forced to make changes to Battle of the Belts due to medical protocols.

AEW Battle of the Belts 2022

AEW will have to make changes to the Battle of the Belts 2022 card due to medical issues.

The one-hour TNT special event takes place this Saturday from Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC. Newly crowned TNT Champion Cody Rhodes was announced to defend the title against Sammy Guevara. Britt Baker vs Riho Women’s title match was the only other match announced.

All Elite Wrestling announced on their Twitter handle on Thursday evening that there will an “announced change due to medical protocol” on the card. The changed match will be announced at AEW Rampage later tonight. You can see the tweet below:

It remains unclear which title match will change. Riho and Britt Baker were part of AEW Rampage tapings this Wednesday. Cody and Sammy did not appear on Dynamite this week and are also not booked for Rampage. Their watch was hyped via video package.

It can be speculated that the medical protocol at this time is due to COVID-19, which is once again on the surge in the United States.

It is also unclear whether these changes will cause any other change in AEW’s plans for the event. Cody Rhodes earlier said that he expects some big things to happen at the Battle of the Belts. In an earlier interview last week, he said

“I am excited about Battle of the Belts because it reminds me of Clash of the Champions. It’s a special and big things happen on nights like that. We are not capable of never having a big night but we are capable of making our nights bigger.”
