WWE NXT Results & Updates- 1 January 2020: Year-End Awards

Welcome to ITN’s updates blog from WWE NXT episode of 1 January 2020 featuring the Year End Awards and the top 3 matches of the year. This is a pre-recorded version.

NXT Year End Awards 2019

The show opens up with a video package with the rushes from the last year. Cathy Kelley, Sam Roberts, and Pat McAfee are at WWE Studios.

They announce the winner of the NXT 2019 Year-End Award for the Match of the Year. The Fatal 4 Way Ladder Match for the NXT Tag Team Championship at the Takeover: XXV is the winner. That match saw The Street Profits winning the title against the likes of The Undisputed Era, The Forgotten Sons, and Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch. The match is also the #3 match that is being broadcast.

We see the nominees for the Tag Team of the Year. The reigning NXT Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Era are the winners. We cut to an empty Full Sail as Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish, Roderick Strong, and Adam Cole walk out to the ring. NXT General Manager William Regal is already in the ring with the two golden bell awards. They say it should be Collective of the Year because any combination of their group could be tag team of the year. Regal hands them the awards and exits. The Undisputed Era raises their titles in the air as we go to commercial.

We see the nominees for the Male Competitor of the Year Award. NXT Champion Adam Cole is the winner here. Back to Full Sail and Tthe Undisputed Era returns to the ring once again. William Regal hands Cole the award and Cole brags about his year for a bit.

Female Competitor of the Year award nominees is shown now. The panel discusses the NXT women’s division for a bit. Shayna Baszler, who was the NXT Women’s Champion for the whole year, before being dethroned on the 18 December episode, is the winner. Baszler, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke come out to receive the award. Baszler says she’s the most dominant champion that WWE has ever seen and she won’t slow down just because she lost the title.

We look at nominees for the Rivalry of the Year. Johnny Gargano vs Adam Cole is the winner in this category. Gargano comes out to join Regal before Cole also heads out alone. Regal gives their trophies. Gargano gives his speech and Cole interrupts to threaten and taunt him.

The first-ever women’s WarGames match back at the NXT Takeover: WarGames 2019 is the match #2 to be replayed on the show tonight. Team Ripley(Rhea Ripley, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, Dakota Kai) defeated Team Baszler(Shayna Baszler, Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray). Dakota Kai turned heel.

Cathy Kelly gets us to nominees for Future Star of the Year. Dakota Kai is revealed as the winner. Kai walks to the ring to accept her award from Regal. Kai says she has known this about herself for some time and those who voted for her, you’re just late to the party.

The tag teams and bracket for the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classics are announced. 1. NXT Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Era(Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish) 2. The Forgotten Sons(Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler) 3. Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne 4. Kushida and a mystery partner 5. Grizzled Young Veterans(James Drake and Zack Gibson) 6. NXT UK Tag Team Champions Gallus(Wolfgang and Mark Coffey) 7. Imperium(Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner) 8. Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster.

The Takeover of the Year Award is revealed and it is WarGames 2019. We see highlights from the said event. The next award is the Breakout Star of the Year Award, which is won by Keith Lee. Triple H introduces Keith Lee in a backstage segment and hands him his award.

The winner for the Match of the Year Award is revealed- Johnny Gargano vs Adam Cole in a 2 of 3 Falls Match at the NXT TakeOver: New York. We get a replay of the match. Next, Adam Cole is announced as the Overall Competitor of the Year. The Undisputed Era is out at the ring once again at Full Sail. Cole cuts another promo putting himself and his team over. The show goes off the air.
