Will Ospreay’s return and Hiroshi Tanahashi winning the IWGP US Championship in the main event match were the highlights of NJPW Resurgence 2021 PPV.

The show opened with Karl Fredericks defeating Alex Coughlin with an Impaler DDT for the pin. TJP, Clark Connors and Ren Narita defeated Fred Rosser, Rocky Romero, and Wheeler Yuta in a trios match.

For the third match of the night, Lio Rush, Chris Dickinson, Fred Yehi, Yuya Uemura, and Adrian Quest beat Tom Lawlor, JR Kratos, Jorel Nelson, Royce Isaacs, and Danny Limelight in a ten-man tag match.

Juice Robinson defeated Hikuleo after he countered a chokeslam into a pin. Hikuleo beat up Robinson post-match and chokeslammed him. Tomohiro Ishii defeated IMPACT Wrestling’s Moose in a match that lived up to its billing.

In the surprise of the night, Will Ospreay returned from his injury and revealed that he is cleared for action. However, he will not be in G1 Climax and pissed off at NJPW stripping him off the IWGP World title after he gave his neck to NJPW. He calls Shingo Takagi a “pu**y” and says NJPW should add interim in front of his IWGP tite. Because he is the real champion who was never defeated as the champion. Ospreay also reveals that he will defend the title in its new home of NJPW Strong(their US show).

Karl Fredericks and Clark Connors came out to confront him. TJP also made came out and tried to calm down Fredericks and Connors. TJP also went into the ring and threw the mic from Ospreay’s hands. Ospreay left after Fredericks and Connors hit the ring.

Jon Moxley was without a tag team partner for his match against The Good Brothers. Yuji Nagata turned out to be that partner, but he was also the one to be pinned in the match. After the match, Anderson and Gallows cut a promo gloating about themselves. The Guerrillas of Destiny – Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa came out to the ring. But Good Brothers decided against engaging and left with their IMPACT Tag titles.

Jay White defended the NEVER Openweight Championship against David Finlay in another banger match. Both men resorted to low blows when the referee was down. But that did not factor in the finish at all. Both men went back and forth in the final minutes before White hit the Blade Runner for the win.

Post-match, Tomohiro Ishii walked out and stood on the apron to tease an upcoming encounter with White. The Champion cut a promo on Ishii after he left and even teased going to AEW.

Lance Archer was super-hyped to face Hiroshi Tanahashi as he walked out beating up some guys from the security. The two men produced another worthy main eventer where Archer had to resort to unbuckling the turnbuckle and using a chair. Tanahashi kicked out of a swinging Urinagi and went on to hit two splashes from the top to get the win.

Jon Moxley was waiting in the front row to tease their upcoming match at AEW All Out. However, it was Archer who took the mic and said a few words in respect of Tanahashi. Tanahashi also addressed the crowd before the show went off the air.
