Jay Briscoe will finally get his moment in AEW as a match is set for Dynamite January 25, 2023 episode in his memory.

Tony Khan made the announcement that Jay’s brother Mark Briscoe and his longtime friend/rival Jay Lethal will clash in a match on this week’s Dynamite episode to celebrate the life and legacy of Jay Briscoe. January 25 also marks Jay Briscoe’s birthday.

Jay Briscoe passed away on January 17, 2023, in a car accident in Laurel, Delaware. AEW led the tributes for Briscoe as WWE, NJPW, GCW and many other promotions also gave their tributes for the late wrestler.

Jay held the ROH Tag Team Championship with his brother Mark Briscoe at the time of his death. AEW tried to hold a tribute show on Dynamite last week, but Discovery Warner Media, the owner of TBS which airs Dynamite, blocked them from hosting any such show.

Warner Media historically had problems with The Briscoes due to their homophobic slurs in the past. Tony Khan earlier revealed that the company blocked The Briscoes’ appearances several times in the past also. After another no-go from the network, Khan went on to record an ROH show for Jay Briscoe’s memorial.

However, things seem to have changed within the last week as Mark Briscoe will finally appear under AEW banner to face Jay Lethal. ROH Announcer Bobby Cruise is brought in to announce this match while Ian Riccaboni is also expected to be on the commentary table.

AEW Dynamite episode of January 25 will air from Lexington, KY, and will feature Bryan Danielson vs Brian Cage and Darby Allin vs Buddy Mathews singles matches announced among several other matches. Check here for the complete preview for the show.
