Khamzat Chimaev vs Nate Diaz Set to Headline UFC 279

A much-anticipated bout is finally in the works for the main event of UFC 279. 

According to the latest reports, Khamzat Chimaev vs Nate Diaz welterweight bout is set to headline UFC 279 PPV event on September 10 later this year. 

ESPN reported that both these fighters have verbally agreed to this bout. It will be a five-round bout which will close the show. The contracts for the same will be signed very soon. 

UFC is finalizing a welterweight matchup between @KChimaev and @NateDiaz209 to headline UFC 279 on Sept. 10 in Las Vegas, UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell told @bokamotoespn.

Khamzat Chimaev has been unstoppable so far. Currently, he is 5-0 in UFC. His most recent victory came against the former title challenger Gilbert Burns. It was a three-round war which Chimaev managed to win. 

On the other hand, Nate Diaz lost his last two fights. He was defeated by Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 and then Leon Edwards beat him by unanimous decision at UFC 263. 

The fight against Khamzat Chimaev will be the last fight for Nate Diaz under his current UFC contract. Hence, he will certainly try to make the most of it. Whereas, Khamzat Chimaev will try and continue his dominating run in order to get one step closer to the welterweight title shot. 

UFC 279 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 10.
