Charles Oliveira Denies Report on UFC 283 Bout: “I Need a Break”
Former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira has denied the report that he will be on UFC 283 card in Brazil.
One of the MMA accounts on Twitter posted an incorrect report that Charles Oliveira will be facing Rafael Fiziev on UFC 283 which is scheduled to take place in Oliveira’s native country Brazil.
Oliveira was quick to dismiss the rumor that the fight is in work. DoBronx wrote, “Not gonna happen. I need a break. Thank you guys!” Ariel Helwani also cleared that he never reported about fight in the first place as it was mentioned in the tweet.
Charles Oliviera(33-9) has been one of the busiest fighters in UFC in the last few years. Enroute to his title fight in 2021, he fought 8 times in 3 years and remained undefeated during that period. He defeated Michael Chandler at UFC 262 to win the vacant Lightweight title in May 2021. He then defended it successfully against Dustin Poirier in December 2021.
Oliveira was stripped of the title after missing weight before UFC 274. Regardless, he went on to defeat Justin Gaetheje at the event to retain his #1 contender status for the title. Oliveira’s 11 fights winning streak was broken by Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 last month.
Before he lost at UFC 280, Oliveira was interested in fighting Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 283 and UFC 284. In the past, he has also expressed a desire to fight Conor McGregor on Brazil’s card. However, he seems to have opted for a break after a devastating loss to Makhachev.
UFC 283 currently has Deiveison Figureido vs Brandon Moreno 4 bout for flyweight title unification set on the main card. The event will take place on January 21, 2022, in Rio De Janerio, Brazil.
