WWE Announces 2-Hour NXT Moving to USA on Wednesdays
WWE has officially announced that the NXT brand will start airing live on the USA Network every Wednesday night for 2 hours from 8 PM EST to 10 PM EST, starting from September 18.
There have been speculations that NXT will move to Fox on Wednesday nights to compete with AEW. However, the developments in the last few weeks have now seen it move to the USA instead. Earlier, the reports suggested that WWE will announce the move during RAW last night but the fans had to wait for few more hours to receive the news.
Currently, the show air exclusively on WWE Network on Wednesday from to 8-9 PM EST. The show’s format will now change from 1 hour to 2 hours as it will move to the USA but it will continue to air on Wednesdays. Also, currently NXT will not be touring brand and will continue to air from its home at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL for the foreseeable future.
WWE gave out a press release which includes the statement from Vince McMahon: “The move to USA Network provides an opportunity to deepen our relationship with NBCUniversal and further build the NXT brand. Over the long term, our goal is to develop a following that can be monetized to the same level as our flagship programs, Raw and SmackDown.”
“USA Network and WWE have one of the longest and most successful partnerships in television history,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks – USA and SYFY. “As the No. 1 cable entertainment network, we’re excited to add NXT to our weekly lineup alongside powerhouse flagship Raw and to bring a new generation of Superstars to a wide audience.”
NXT was launched in 2010 as a reality TV show where WWE will try out new talent. Since then, it has become WWE’s third global brand alongside Raw and SmackDown, but more or less working as the developmental brand. It also hosts nearly 200 live events around the world each year. NXT has been WWE Network’s No. 1 weekly series. 80 percent of the current Raw and SmackDown rosters, including Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, Bray Wyatt, and Baron Corbin, has ‘graduated’ from NXT.
