WarGames Match: List Of Matches In WWE, Format, Rules

WarGames match is a special tag team Steel Cage match that encloses around two rings placed side by side. The match also adds hardcore elements with the tornado tag team match format, with two to three teams of 3 to 5 wrestlers involved in the match. Created by Dusty Rhodes in 1987, the match was introduced in WWE in 2017 when NXT started a special event for the match.

Format and Rules

WarGames matches are contested between two or three tag teams. If two teams participate in the match, the teams usually have 4 or 5 wrestlers in each side. If three teams are involved, the teams have 3 wrestlers each. Due to upto 10 wrestlers being involved in the match at one point in time, two rings are used inside the cage to accommodate all the participants properly. The steel cage is enclosed from all 4 sides. The rules of WarGames are as below:

1. Everything is legal inside the ring- be it chairs, tables, ladders, cutters, thumbtacks, or any other equipment.
2. Two wrestlers from each team start the match.
3. After five minutes one wrestler from any one team(usually decided via entry advantage matches in prior), enter the cage to create a two-on-one handicap situation temporarily.
4. After two minutes, one wrestler from the other team will enter the cage. The same is the case in matches involving 3 teams also.
5. One wrestler enters every two minutes from alternate teams until all members are inside the cage.
6. Only after all the participants have entered the cage, does the match begins officially. All the participants remain in action all the time like a tornado tag team match.
7. In WWE, the WarGames match ends either with knockout, submission, or pinfalls.
