Welcome to the live results blog for WWE SmackDown February 17, 2023 episode which was the go-home episode for Elimination Chamber 2023 event.

The event aired from Bell Center in Montreal, Canada – the hometown of Sami Zayn and he expected featured in the main event segment of the show just one night before his match against Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Drew McIntyre and Sheamus got their wish as they got to face The Viking Raiders in a tag team rematch. Natalya and Shotzi faced Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler in another tag team match. Liv Morgan and Asuka clashed just a day before their clash inside Elimination Chamber. Madcap Moss challenged Gunther for WWE Intercontinental Championship.

RESULTS

  • Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler defeated Natalya & Shotzi in a tag team match via pinfall.
  • Drew McIntyre & Sheamus defeated The Viking Raiders(Erik & Ivar) in a tag team match via pinfall.
  • Asuka defeated Liv Morgan in a singles match via pinfall.
  • Gunther(c) defeated Madcap Moss in a singles match via pinfall to retain WWE Intercontinental Championship.

We get a “In Memory of Jerry Jarrett” graphics.


The show opens with a recap of Jey Uso returning last week to defend tag team titles with Jimmy and how he later met Sami Zayn who “acknowledged” him and told him that he does not need to do down with Roman Reigns. We also hear Paul Heyman instructing Jimmy to be at home and see the show from there.

Natalya & Shotzi vs Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler

Natalya starts with side takedown. She gets a waistlock takedown before blocking a joint manipulation and hitting Shayna with a snapmare. Ronda tags in and puts on an arm wringer. Natalya rolls over and reverses the wringer. Shotzi hits a series of kicks after she tags in. Ronda puts her in an armbar using the ropes while Shayna tags in.

Shotzi hits with a flurry of shots ending with a dropkick. Ronda tags in and Shotzi hits a German suplex. Shotzi puts on a submission move to keep Ronda grounded. Ronda is thrown to the floor and hit with a suicide dive. Natalya hits Shayna with a clothesline. Shotzi hits a crossbody on both opponents to take us to a break.

Shayna has Shotzi in an arm lock. Shotzi tries to fight off but Shayna drops her and nails Natalya with a punch. Ronda pulls Shotzi’s hair in the corner. Shotzi manages to throw Shayna to the floor and then manages to drop Ronda head first into the floor. Shayna tags in and tries to block a tag out to Natalya. Shotzi hits a suplex and tags in Natalya. Natalya quick moves in succession including big punches, clotheslines, dropkicks and more.

Natalya picks her up from the top rope and hits a running powerbomb for a near fall. Ronda takes a blind tag. Ronda misses a knee dive and injures her knees. Natalya puts on a sharpshooter in the middle of the ring. Ronda is in peril but Shayna’s intervention leads to Natalya letting it go. Shotzi tags in but The Hart Foundation is blocked by Shayna as she pulls Natalya out to the floor. Ronda takes down Shotzi and puts on an armbar on Shotzi to get the tapout.

Winner – Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler

After the break, we get a video package highlighting Sami’s early days with The Bloodline where he saved and helped out The Usos and Solo Sikoa many times, his monumental contribution in WarGames match and ended with Roman declaring his final test for Royal Rumble.


Hit-Row are in the ring and start to rap, asking for a response from the crowd. The lights go off suddenly. Bray Wyatt and Uncle Howdy are on the apron as the lights come on. Wyatt enters the ring and throws Top Dolla out of the ring while Uncle Howdy slams Ashante Adonis into the corner. Wyatt hits Sister Abigail on Adonis. Wyatt then takes the mic and says as he is in control of himself again, he wants to announce in advance that whoever wins between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley should run.


We see a recap of Madcap Moss winning the fatal 4-way match last week to setup a showdown with Gunther. Moss says nobody was expecting him to win, so, everyone could continue that while he keeps winning match after match and titles with it.


Ariel Helwani is in the crowd amid “Sami” chants. Helwani says Montreal is ready to see Sami Zayn win the Universal Championship.

Drew McIntyre & Sheamus vs The Viking Raiders(Erik & Ivar)

Sheamus misses Brogue kick while Ivar misses a spinning roundhouse kick. Sheamus takcles Ivar to the floor. Erik and Drew also get involved in the brawl outside. Sheamus throws Ivar into the barricade before taking him back. Sheamus takes Ivar back to the ring and hits a clothesline to send him back to the floor. We cut a break as The Viking Raiders regroup on the floor.

Erik is in control against Sheamus as we return. Sheamus is hit with a tackle before Ivar tags in. The Vikings continue to tag in and out and keep Sheamus under control. Valhalla stares down Sheamus before he hits back with forearm shots. Ivar tackles him to the corner. Ivar knocks off Drew from the apron. Sheamus hits back with a clothesline.

Tags to Drew and Erik, and Drew hits a couple of clotheslines along with forearm shots. He hits a belly to belly suplex in Erik before neckbreakers on both opponents. Drew hits Michinoku Driver on Erik for a two-count. Ivar tags in and Drew hits him with a Glasgow Kiss. Sheamus tags in but Ivar hits him with a big boot. Ivar gets to the top. Sheamus brings Ivar down from the top rope with a superplex to take us to a break.

Sheamus and Drew are hitting The Viking Raiders with 10 Beats of Beltran. Ivar hits Drew with a back elbow. Drew responds with a spinebuster quickly. Sheamus gets the tag and hits a knee dive but Erik breaks the pin. Sheamus hits a body slam on Erik. Erik counters Brogue kick and hits a powerbomb to get a near fall.

Erik jumps to the second rope but Sheamus counters it with a knee strike. Drew tags in as Ivar pulls Erik out to the floor. Drew hits The Viking Raiders with a tope suicida. Valhalla distracts Drew and Ivar tags back. Erik hits Drew with an Urinage. The Viking Raiders hit the Viking Experience on Drew, but Sheamus breaks the pin.

Sheamus is thrown to the floor. Drew hits pump kick on Erik. Ivar hits a headbutt on Drew and then hits a splash from the top for another near fall. Erik tags in again. Sheamus runs in to stop a double team. Sheamus takes Ivar to the floor while Drew hits Erik with a Claymore kick to get the pinfall.

Winner – Drew McIntyre & Sheamus

We get the next part of the video package for Sami Zayn which show how he stood up to Roman Reigns at Royal Rumble and the storyline that has followed since then.


Rey Mysterio is getting interviewed backstage. We see how Santos Escobar and Rey exchanged masks. Rey says that moment meant a lot to Santos and competition is always respected. Karrion Kross and Scarlett interrupt him. Kross says once upon a time he had respect for Rey as a father, but not anymore. He dares Rey to do something about it.

Liv Morgan vs Asuka

Carmella is on the commentary. Liv starts with a side headlock and takedown. Asuka comes out of it and fakes a handshake. Liv hits a kick and a back elbow. She nails more punches and kicks before Asuka hits a German suplex. Asuka hits a running knee to get a two-count. Asuka puts on an arm stretch as Raquel Rodriguez walks out to argue with Carmella.

Nikki Cross also comes out and sits on the announce table. Liv gets out of the armbar. Asuka hits back with a kick but Liv hits her with Oblivion from the top rope. Asuka rolls over and Liv has to pull her back to the middle. We get a two-count.

Asuka has Liv in another arm lock. Liv gets back to her feet and nails her with punches and kicks. Asuka hit a knee strike to get a two-count. Nikki asks Michael Cole if he will become her best friend. Asuka hits a sidekicks on Liv. Liv hulks up before Asuka nails another side kick. Liv hits back with a punch on Asuka.

Asuka nails a series of kicks. Liv hits back with forearms and a roundhouse kick. Liv hits a missile dropkick before she hits Codebreaker. Asuka blocks Oblivion but Liv is able to roll her up. Asuka once again puts Liv in Rings of Saturn to get the tapout.

Winner – Asuka

After the match, Carmella hits Asuka with a big boot. Natalya hits Carmella with a clothesline. Nikki hits a neckbreaker on Natalya. Raquel hits Tahana bomb on Nikki. Raquel picks up Liv but she hits her with Oblivion. Asuka comes back and has a staredown with Liv.


Gunther is interviewed at the Gorilla Position. He says just because Madcap Moss is getting motivated by a girl, he is not gonna beat him tonight. Gunther makes his entrance for the match.

Gunther(c) vs Madcap Moss – WWE Intercontinental Championship

Moss comes out with Emma after the break. We get the announcements done and are ready for the match. Moss goes for a double leg but Gunther puts him in the corner to hit chest slaps. Moss completes the takedown but gets some strikes going. Gunther takes him down in a side headlock. Gunther hits a shoulder tackle as they get back to their feet.

Gunther hits a forearm and another chop before a big boot to get a two-count. Moss ducks a chop and hits a shoulder tackle in the corner. He hits another shoulder tackle before Gunther blocks a third one. Moss counters with a spinebuster when Gunther blocks his running tackle. Moss tackles Gunther to the floor as we cut to a break.

They are trading shots as we return. Gunther drops Moss with big chops. Moss blocks a powerbomb. Gunther blocks a neckbreaker. Moss runs the ropes but Gunther puts him in a choke. Moss hits him with a back suplex. Moss takes a running start to hit a big clothesline for a two-count.

Both men block a suplex before Moss manages to hit it. Moss hits the punch line to get another two-count. Moss hits a snapmare before Gunther counters a fallaway slam. Gunther nails a big chop to the chest. Gunther goes to the top. Moss recovers and meets him there. Gunther drops him back to the mat with strikes. Moss comes back and hits an avalanche fallaway slam for a near fall.

Gunther catches Moss in a choke out of nowhere. He keeps the choke on for a while before hitting a powerbomb to get the pinfall.

Winner – Gunther

Rey Mysterio vs Karrion Kross, Rhea Ripley & Charlotte Flair face-off and the return of Firefly Funhouse is announced for next week.

Sami Comes Home

Sami Zayn makes his entrance to loud cheers from the crowd. Sami is visibly emotional as the loud cheering and singing continue. He takes a minute to soak everything in. “You Deserve It” chants from the crowd now. Sami is in tears now.

Sami finally speaks something in French. He says this time of year, everyone points at one thing. Sami points toward the WrestleMania sign. Sami says but for him, tomorrow night this city is the most important event. He says tomorrow night it is not just Roman Reigns vs Sami Zayn, but Roman Reigns vs Sami Zayn and the entire city of Montreal. Sami throws the mic as he hypes up. The show goes off the air as Sami hypes himself up and the crowd gets behind him.
