Welcome to the live results blog for WWE NXT April 18, 2023 episode, featuring NXT North American Championship and Tag Team Championship match.
Just a week before Spring Breakin’ special, Wes Lee defended North American Championship against a wrestler completely different in style in Charlie Dempsey. Was he able to cope with Dempsey’s technical prowess?
Gallus defended the tag team titles in another 3-way match as faced The Dyad and The Creed Brothers. They were able to call in a surprise in Joe Coffey to hang onto the titles last time around. What surprised did they have this time?
Two women’s singles matches were also set in Roxanne Perez vs Zoey Stark, and Cora Jade vs Gigi Dolni. Naom Dar also made his return to in-ring action this week while NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes was the guest in Grayson Waller Effect. RESULTS
- Gallus(c) defeated The Dyad and The Creed Brothers in a three-way tag team match via pinfall to retain NXT Tag Team Championship.
- Noam Dar defeated Myles Borne in a singles match via pinfall.
- Roxanne Perez defeated Zoey Stark in a singles match via pinfall.
- Cora Jade defeated Gigi Dolin in a singles match via pinfall.
- Dijak defeated Apollo Crews in a singles match via pinfall.
- Wes Lee(c) defeated Charlie Dempsey in a singles match via pinfall to retain NXT North American Championship.
LIVE UPDATES
Gallus(c) vs The Dyad vs The Creed Brothers – NXT Tag Team Championship
All three teams are already brawling as the show starts. They get into the ring after a minute to start the match. A quick start as 3 legal men go back and forth. Reid unloads on Brutus with punches for a while. Coffey and Wolfgang double team on Reid to hit him with a Samoan drop. Coffey continues to be in control against Brutus and Reid. Brutus ducks a clothesline and tags in Julius who hits German suplexes and belly-to-belly suplexes on Coffey and Reid.
Coffey counters with a suplex. He sets up Reid on the top. Reid pushes him back down. Julius jumps up top and Reid slips out. Julius hits a moonsault on him. Julius hits a gutwrench powerbomb on Coffey. The other three men in the match also come in as the match breaks down. We cut to a break.
Fowler, Brutus and Wolfgang get the hot tags after we return. Brutus drops the other two with tackles and clotheslines. He hits corner clotheslines before Wolfgang counters with a 2 for 1 Northern Light Suplex. The Dyad pulls out Coffey to the floor and The Creed Brothers pull out Wolfgang. They send the champions in the steel steps. The Dyad and The Creed start fighting in the ring now. The Dyad hit Brutus with a double-team suplex.
Julius counters with a double suplex himself. Ava tries to distract Julius. Fowler picks up Julius on his shoulder. Brutus tags in and punches Reid to the floor on Ivy when she confronts Ava. Julius goes to check on Ava. Gallus duo come back to the ring and throw Fowler to the floor. They double-team on Brutus to get the pinfall.
Winners – Gallus
A cameraman tries to catch up with Dijak asking about Ilja Dragunov. Dijak says Dragunov was the most fearful match in NXT until he came back. He pushes the cameraman when he probes him more. Apollo Crews takes offense on this. Dijak says Crews is just trying to show off before WWE Draft 2023 and asks him to have a match later tonight.
We get a late-night talkshow-themed segment – Hard Hitting Home Truths with Nathan Frazer where he talks about how things are not going well for him since he returned from injury, but also says there are world-class athletes in NXT.
Noam Dar vs Myles Borne
Borne misses a big swing but is able to takedown Dar. Dar counters with a side headlock. He hits a kick to trip Borne before some knee strikes to midsection. Borne tackles him to the corner. Dar fires back with some forearms. He hits a kick at Borne after working on him on the ropes for a while. Dar hits a variety of kicks before Borne throws him around with some suplexes. Dar hits him with back elbow. He catches Borne with a knee strike. Dar hits a spinning back elbow before hitting Nova Roller to get the pinfall.
Winner – Noam Dar
Roxanne Perez gets a pre-recorded promo against her opponent tonight Zoey Starks where she talks about strength of character. She also warns Tiffany Stratton that she will get through her if she needs to in order to get another shot at her NXT Women’s Championship.
MVP’s Challenge
Odessey Jones comes out to the ring for a match. Bron Breakker hits him with a spear out of nowhere. Breakker takes the mic after this. He says he will knock out everyone who gets in his way. He says Chase U are like a bunch of clowns and he will not let some clowns be here. He says Jones felt it and Andre Chase felt it. Duke Hudson interrupts him from the crowd and tells Breakker to keep Chase’s name out of his mouth.
Hudson says Breakker torn down Chase U flag last week and asks if he did it because he was sad after losing NXT Championship. Hudson challenges Breakker for a match at Spring Breakin’. Breakker says Hudson is talking big now but was running away with his MVP trophy last week. He turns into the camera and tells Chase that he will spear him in half at Spring Breakin’.
Cora Jade is backstage for an interview and says she could have said a lot more things about a lot more people if Lyra Valkyrie did not interrupt her. Gigi Dolin interrupts her and says Cora is just trying to vent her frustration from other issues by taking it out on others in the ring.
Roxanne Perez vs Zoey Stark
Stark starts with a takedown after a lock up. She slams Perez to the mat once again. Perez throws her over with an armdrag. More armdrags from Perez to get a two-count. Perez twists the arm and pulls it a few times before putting a on a side headlock. Perez turns it into a side headlock takeover. Stark counters with a leg scissor. A bit of back and forth. Stark holds onto the ropes to block a sunset flip and hits a tackle.
Perez comes back with a side headlock takeover. Zoey no-sells her shoulder tackle. Perez goes for a leg scissors but Stark kicks her to the midsection. Stark hits another kick. Perez sends her to the floor with leg scissors. Perez goes for a dive on the floor but Stark catches her and drops her face first onto the apron.
Perez is trying to fight back but Stark overpowers to block a submission and slams her into the corner. Stark drops her face on her knees and hits a low clothesline. Perez hits a jawbreaker to break free of a chinlock. She unleashes several punches She catches Perez as she goes for a Thesz Press. Perez hits a Thesz press from the second rope.
Stark rolls to the floor and Perez hits a suicide dive. Perez rolls her over when they return to the ring. Stark blocks a Pop-Rox and hits a superkick and a half-and-half suplex. More backa\ and forth action before Perez hits Pop-Rox to get the pinfall.
Winner – Roxanne Perez
NXT Women’s Champion Indi Hartwell comes out and says she would not be a good champion if she does not defend against Perez who did not lose it in the first place. She asks if they can face off at Spring Breakin’. Perez accepts. Tiffany Stratton comes out and says Perez is trying to jump the line and beat the most beatable champion. Indi takes offense on it and adds Stratton to the match to make it a triple threat.
Gigi Dolin vs Cora Jade
Gigi goes for an arm wringer. Cora counters it before Gigi hits her with a kick. A quick back and forth before Gigi sends Cora to the corner and hits hip attacks. Cora turns it around to hit some kicks and double knees to her back. Cora goes to lock up her arms around the neck. Gigi breaks free and htis a backstabber. She hits a knee strike and a couple of roundhouse kicks.
Cora charges at her but Gigi gets her up on her shoulders. Jacy Jayne comes out and tries to kick her. Gigi is able to kick Cora away. She pulls Jacy in and clotheslines her to the floor. She goes on to throw Jacy over the announce table and into Booker T on commentary. Gigi gets back to the ring and Cora hits a DDT to get the pinfall.
Winner – Cora Jade
Cora tries to cut a promo but Lyra Valkyrie interrupts her and says Cora’s claim of being women’s division saviour will be tested as they go one-on-one.
Eddy Thorpe is interviewed backstage and says he has worked hard and travelled around the country to try and be successful and make his family proud. Damon Kemp comes in with a condescending tone and tells him to keep it up.
Dijak vs Apollo Crews
Apollo starts with a waistlock takedown. Dijak gets his arm locked in hammerlock. He pushes Crews to the ropes and Crews hits a back elbow. Crews puts on a side headlock. Dijak breaks free and they run around dodging each other until Crews hits a dropkick. Crews ducks a swing and hits a German suplex. He completes a trio of suplexes on Dijak. Dijak throws him to the floor. He knocks off Crews from the apron with a tackle.
Crews drops Dijak’s face on the ropes as we return. He hits clotheslines in the ring before a flying clothesline. He hits a corner splash before hitting a pump kick. Dijak lands on his feet on German suplex and hits a superkick. Crews replies with a pump kick before Dijak drops him with a leg lariat for a two-count. Crews blocks a chokeslam but misses a standing moonsault.
Dijak grabs his throat and hits a chokeslam to get a near fall. Crews hits a back elbow in the corner. Dijak gets him up on his shoulders and hits Feast Your Eyes to get the pinfall.
Winner – Dijak
Dijak tries to beat up Crews after the match but Ilja Dragunov runs out and kicks Dijak out of the ring.
Jacy Jayne is in the parking lot and says if Gigi thought her life was tough before, she has no idea what she is gonna put her though. Gigi Dolin abandoned her 7 years old brother with her abusive brother and preffered to wrestle in indies and couch surf. She claims that Gigi is gonna run away from NXT just like she did from her mother and her brother when she is done with her.
Wes Lee(c) vs Charlie Dempsey – NXT North American Championship
Drew Gulak attacks Wes Lee during his entrance. He threw Lee into the ring. Lee asks to get the match started. Dempsey hits him with uppercuts and knee strikes to midsection. Dempsey gets a two-count with some innovative pin attempts. Lee fights back with a dropkick and legscissors takedown. He hits a suicide dive on the floor to take us to a break.
Dempsey has a leg lock on as we return. He uses the lock and rolls over to throw Lee away. He hits a snapmare before putting on an armbar. He changes to a hammerlock and keeps Lee to the mat for a while. An European uppercut slows down Lee’s momentum. Dempsey puts on an arm and shoulder lock. Lee hits punches to midsection. Dempsey hits back with more uppercuts and forearms. Lee creates momentum with quick punches and a dropkick to Dempsey’s back.
Lee misses knee in the corner and Dempsey hits him with dragon screw. He hits hammerlock suplex and a German suplex to get a two-count. Dempsey hits a bridging German suplex to get another two-count. Dempsey hits clubbing blows to his back. Lee lands on his feet on a German suplex and hits a series of kicks. He knocks Drew Gulak off the apron and then hit Kardiac kick to get the pinfall.
Winner – Wes Lee
Drew Gulak attacks Lee after the match. Dempsey holds Lee’s leg as Gulak continues to beat him up. Dempsey hits half and half suplex on Lee to end the segment.
Tony D’Angelo and Stacks are talking about Pretty Deadly’s challenge. They come to an agreement to a Trunk match against Pretty Deadly at Spring Breakin’.

Carmelo Hayes on Grayson Waller Effect
Grayson Waller is alreay in the ring as we get the intro video for Grayson Waller Effect. He talks about Spring Breakin’ card but he is in the main event against NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes. Carmelo comes out with Trick Williams. Waller says that the vibe is off a bit. Hayes says despite all the losses, Waller manages to get into the main event spot. He adds that he is more decorated than a Christman tree while Waller has so many bricks that he can build an apartment complex.
Waller retorts by saying that Waller has become a bigger star than Hayes without a title, which means that the title needs him. Waller asks the first question what does Hayes means when he says He is “Him.” Waller says Hayes means that he is them because Hayes would not be a champion without Trick Williams. The crowd chants, “Pull that Trick”. Hayes retorts to Waller saying that Waller has pulled every trick in the book.
Hayes says Waller is below greatness while he is above that greatness line. He asks to put up a list of Waller’s achievements. Waller replies that he overshadowed Hayes at Stand & Deliver. The argument continued for a while and Waller says he will do a Golden Shoey over Hayes next week. Hayes asks him how would do Shoey when his shoes would be on a powerline and Hayes would remain NXT Champion. They close the show with a staredown.
