Bronson Reed Wins NXT North American Championship
Bronson Reed defeated Johnny Gargano in a steel cage match to win the NXT North American Championship at this week’s NXT episode.
Reed and Gargano are feuding for the last month ever since Reed won the Gauntlet Elimination match at NXT TakeOver: Stand and Deliver Night 1 to become the #1 contender for the title. The first title match between them took place on night 2 of TakeOver, where Gargano was able to retain the title after some distraction from Austin Theory.
Later, Reed defeated Austin Theory in a singles match to get another title shot. Last week, Gargano and Theory attacked Reed in the locker room, after which Reed asked the title match to take place inside a steel cage.
The match went on the main event of this week’s NXT episode. Despite the steel cage being a barrier, Austin Theory still helped out Gargano on a couple of occasions and even prevented Reed from getting out of the cage. Reed finally hit a headbutt into the steel cage, which sent Theory flying into the barricade to take him out.
Reed grabbed Gargano on top of the cage and hit an avalanche powerbomb followed by a top-rope splash to get the pin to win the North American title. This is Reed’s first title in WWE.
