Braun Strowman defeated Goldberg to win the WWE Universal Championship at WWE WrestleMania 36 Night 1 on 4 April 2020.

Goldberg won the Universal Title at Super ShowDown 2020 after beating The Fiend Bray Wyatt. He was then booked to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36 for his first title defense. However, Roman pulled out of the match due to being immunocompromised with his battle with Leukemia. Braun Strowman was parachuted into the match and was announced just a day prior to WrestleMania.

In a short match, Goldberg hit back to back spears but could not get the pin. After the fourth spear, Goldberg went for the jackhammer but Strowman countered and started hitting a series of power slams. Strowman then hit a running power slam to finish off and won the Universal Championship for the first time in his WWE career.

This is Strowman’s first World title and second singles title this year. Earlier in the year, he won the Intercontinental Championship which was also his first singles title in WWE career.
