UFC 274 PPV is headlined by Charles Oliviera vs Justin Gaethje lightweight fight where the UFC Lightweight Championship will be on the line for Justin Gaethje.

Charles Oliviera is the champion heading into the event, but he missed weight ahead of the event and will be stripped of the title before the event starts. Gaethje will still have a chance to win the title if he manages to defeat Oliviera. If Oliveira wins, he will be the #1 contender for the vacant title.

Before this event, Oliveira is on a 10-fight winning streak that started back in June 2018. He has won the title against Michael Chandler at UFC 262 in June last year via 3rd round TKO and later defended it successfully against Dustin Poirier at UFC 269 in December by forcing him to submit to a rear-naked choke.

Gaethje has become the #1 contender once again by defeating Chandler at UFC 268 via unanimous decision. This will be his second attempt at the title after previously losing the title unification fight to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

In the co-main event, Rosa Namajunas will try to defend her strawweight crown against an old nemesis in Carla Esparza. Namajunas won the title from Zhang Weili at UFC 261 and then defended it successfully against her at UFC 268. Esparza defeated Namajunas in December 2014 to win the inaugural Strawweight title. Will Namajunas come on top and secure her title reign this time around?

Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson have both lost to the main event fighters in their last bouts and both would return to winning ways.

Charles Oliviera vs Justin Gaethje – Lightweight Championship bout for Gaethje

Round 1: Oliviera lands a big kick early. He fires in a big right after a few seconds. Gaethje then drops him with a big right. Oliviera gets up but is down on the mat a few seconds later after another right. Gaethje swings with a left. Oliviera with a knee and a punch. Gaethje connects a left and a right cross. Oliviera goes for a submission but Gaethje hits takes him down with a spinebuster. Gaethje loads up but misses his swing and falls down in the process. They exchange shots and Oliviera comes out of it with a takedown and puts on the rear naked choke. He is not able to put it on properly though. He changes his position and puts on the rear naked choke and gets the submission.

Oliviera goes to Dana White and tells him that he did not miss the weight. White tells him he knows and he is the #1 contender for the title now.

Official Decision: Oliviera wins via submission(rear naked choke) at 3:37 in round 1.

Rosa Namajunas vs Carla Esparza – UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship

Round 1: Rose is keeping her distance from Esparza. Neither women has touch each other in the first minute at all. Carla tries to reach out as we go past 90 seconds. 2 minutes and a half minutes are gone in the fight but there is no touching between them. Carla lands a left finally. Rose also lands one and Carla’s head and nose are red. Carla checks with a kick. Rose still keeps her distance as a boring round comes to an end. This round is impossible to score as per the commentators.

Round 2: The distance is a bit closer this time from Rose. But still, not much action. A chop from Esparza and she grabs Rose’s leg but Rose defends the takedown. They are back to keeping the distance. Carla catches Rose with a left one minute after that action. Rose lands a jab in the final minute. The round ends without any further action.

Round 3: They are finally starting to engage after the first minute of this round. Carla lands a left and a kick. Carla goes for another takedown but Rose defends successfully again. Rose sneaks in an uppercut. Carla comes in and Rose tries to catch her with a left. A bit more engaging round but there are still periods of dullness. Carla almost catches Rose with a big shot in the last minute but Rose backtracks quickly.

Round 4: Carla lands a knee but could not manage a takedown. Rose lands a shot but Carla grabs her leg and jumps on her back. Carla has completed a takedown. They are back to keeping distance. Carla lands a good shot. Another minute goes without much action before Carla grabs the leg. Carla hits a German suplex kind of move and completes another takedown. A few things land from both sides before the round ends.

Round 5: This is getting frustrating to watch and boring to describe. Only significant thing happens in the last 15 seconds as Rose manages a takedown.

Official Decision: Carla Esparza wins via split decision(49-46, 48-47, 47-48).

Michael Chandler vs Tony Ferguson – Lightweight

Round 1: Big chants for Tony Ferguson as they start. Chandler blocks a high kick. Ferguson checks a couple of kicks. Chandler lands a couple of jabs. A big shot from Tony drops Chandler to the mat. Chandler gets back up quickly, though. Ferguson fires in more shots. Chandler catches him with a left hook. This is turning into an intense fight already. Chandler is trying to land big shots but Tony is able to counter and catch him. Chandler completes a takedown and has Tony on his back. Tony is firing back with elbows while Chandler is also trying to unload on him. They are brawling on the mat. Chandler is cut open with one of the elbows. Chandler is finally able to land big shots. Tony is trying to move away from the cage. He is warned to try to grab the cage. He tries for a kimura but Chandler is on top and is able to land his shots in between his defense.

Round 2: Chandler hits a big kick to the face and Tony is down for good. That is it. Ferguson is motionless while Chandler has done 5-6 backflips in joy.

Official Decision: Michael Chandler wins via KO in round 2 at 0:17.

Mauricio Rua vs Ovince Saint Preux – Light Heavyweight

Round 1: Fighters feeling each other out to start. Front kicks and calf kicks land from both sides. Preux lands a side kick on the ribs. OSP hits more front kicks. Rua forces him back reaching out with a combo. Rua also lands a side kick. Neither men can put his mark on the bout until now. Rua is firing more low kicks. Not many for highlight reels in this round.

Round 2: OSP goes for a few high kicks. Rua goes low with his kicks after a while. Rua with more kicks. OSP still going for his high kicks in between his jabs. Rua is throwing and landing more low kicks. OSP lands a good one on the body. Again, not much for highlight reels in this round also. This is going to be another hard fight to score. OSP tries to land a knee to the body late in the round.

Round 3: Rua goes for a clinch early in the round. OSP lands a high kick after pushing him against the ropes. Rua also lands one on the ribs. OSP is clearly having a better round now with front kicks and jabs. He is able to cut open Rua on the eyebrows. OSP is in control but Rua is trying to fight back everytime possible.

Official Decision: OSP wins via split decision(29-28, 28-29, 30-27).

Randy Brown vs Khaos Williams – Welterweight bout

Round 1: Both men feel each other out in the initial 25 seconds. Williams lands a punch and a kick. He tries a couple of more kicks. Brown’s kick is blocked and Williams lands shot on the side of his head. Williams almost catches a front kick and trips Brown. They get in a clinch breifly. Williams’ shot lands on the head again and Brown is bobbled. More shots on the mat. Front headlock is applied. One minute goes in that position and struggles continues from both side. They are back to their feet. Brown slips after trying to land a kick. Kicks and punches are fired from both sides. Brown manages to put on a guillotine as Williams has pushes him to the cage. Brown tries to put on more pressure but the time runs out.

Round 2: Brown lands a big jab and a kick early. Williams fires back with a kick to push him back a bit. Brown lands a couple of more good shots. Brown’s jabs have made Williams uncomfortable and he is in control of the fight in this round so far. He tries a big kick but misses and almost stumbles. He is able to fire shots and get back to distance. Williams is able to land a few calf kicks but Brown has landed far more in this round. Brown catches him with cross as he was coming in. They get into a clinch to end the round.

Round 3: A big front kick lands on the face from Brown. Williams checks with inside calf kicks. Williams lands a combo. Brown lands a shot. They catch each other at the same moment after a while. Brown lands another front kick. He has escaped some good shots but Williams lands a good shot to drop him to the mat and jump on his so quickly. Brown lands a big knee to the face. A swing and a miss from Brown. This round has been back and forth. Brown lands another knee to the face. The round ends with Brown a bit ahead.

Official Decision: Randy Brown wins via split decision(29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
