Jiri Prochazka vs Glover Teixeira 2 in Work for UFC 282
Light Heavyweight Championship rematch is in work for UFC 282 PPV later this year.
Jiri Prochazka(29-3-1) will make his first title defence against Glover Teixeira(33-8) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, as per a report from MMA Fighting.
Prochazka defeated Teixeira to win the title at UFC 275 PPV in June this year. The Fight of the Year contender saw both men battling it out until late in the fifth round. Two judges had Teixeira leading on the scorecards going into the last round, which ultimately saw Teixeira tapping out to a Rear Naked Choke with just 28 seconds left on the clock.
Jiri Prochazka became the champion but was not happy with his performance. A few days later, he took to social media to call for a rematch with Glover Teixeira as his first title defence.
UFC just announced UFC 283 PPV for January 21, 2023, taking place in Rio De Janerio, Brazil, which raised speculations that the Light Heavyweight title rematch might end up headlining that event. However, both Prochazka and Teixeira seem to be ready to fight on the last PPV card this year itself.
Glover Teixeira was on a hot 6-fight winning streak before the loss to Prochazka, which took him to beat Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267 to win the title.
Jiri Prochazka himself has been undefeated in his last 13 fights, which led to him getting a title shot just in his third UFC bout. His previous two bouts in UFC resulted in second-round knockout wins over Dominick Reyes and Volkan Oezdemir.
UFC 282 PPV is scheduled for December 11, 2022. Keep tuned in for more news and updates from UFC.
