Jailton Almeida vs Shamil Abdurakhimov Scheduled at UFC 283
After yet another cancelation, Jailton Almeida is rewarded with his first UFC fight in his home country at UFC 283 PPV.
Almeida is now scheduled to fight Shamil Abdurakhimov in a heavyweight bout on January 21, 2023, at Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. This is the third time that the pairing is scheduled to face off.
Almeida and Abdurakhimov were first scheduled to meet at UFC 279, but the Russian Fighter had to pull out of the bout due to visa issues. The pairing was rescheduled for UFC 280 again, only for another withdrawal from Abdurakhimov.
Almieda defeated Abdurakhimov’s replacement Anton Turkalj at UFC 279 to get his third straight win in UFC. He was then scheduled to face Maxim Grishin this weekend. However, Grishin has to pull out due to visa issues as per UFC’s announcement. UFC then announced that Almeida will now face Abdurakhimov at UFC 283 in Brazil.
Before defeating Turkalj at UFC 279, Jailton Almeida defeated Parker Porter at Fight Night in May 2022 and Danilo Marques in February 2022. Almeida got a UFC contract after his showing in 2021 Dana White Contender Series.
After 2 losses in first 7 bouts in UFC, Shamil Abdurakhimov is now on a 3-fights losing streak. He lost to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 242 in 2019, to Chris Daukaus at UFC 266 in 2021, and to Sergei Pavlovich earlier this year at UFC London in March.
UFC 283 has a Deiveison Figueredo vs Brandon Moreno 4 flyweight title unification bout scheduled on the main card. Keep tuned in for more news and updates.
