Jailton Almeida vs Maxim Grishin Removed from UFC Vegas 64
Jailton Almeida vs Maxim Grishin fight is removed from UFC Vegas 64 Fight Night event on November 5.
Almeida, originally from the heavyweight division, was booked to fight Maxim Grishin in a 220 lbs catchweight bout. MMAFighting reported the news about cancellation first. Almeida later confirmed it via his Twitter account. Almeida wrote, “We arrived in Vegas just now and I heard that my fight was cancelled.”
Almeida later added also confirmed that UFC could not get any late replacement also. “I want to thank Mick Maynard for trying in every way [to get] another opponent, but without success.”
Almeida signed with UFC after getting a contract from 2021 Dana White Contender Series. However, this is the fifth time that one of his fights is cancelled in the last 12 months.
First, his bout against Danilo Marques was delayed from November 2021 to February 2022 due to Marques’ surgery. Then, his bout against Maxim Grishin was cancelled in May this year, but Grishin pulled out with undisclosed reason. Almeida went on to defeat the replacement fighter Parker Porter.
Shamil Abdurakhimov was Almeida’s opponent for UFC 279 in September, but he had to pull out due to visa issues. Almeida instead defeated Anton Turkalj at the event to get his third UFC win. Abdurakhimov was once again scheduled to fight Almeida at UFC 280, but Abdurakhimov withdrew once again. Now, it seems that Grishin has pulled out from facing Almeida a second time.
UFC Vegas 64 or Fight Night 214 takes place on November 5, 2022. The event has Amanda Lemos vs Marina Rodriguez bout in the main event along with a bout between Neil Magny and Daniel Rodriguez in the co-main event.
