Canelo Alvarez is back with his first fight this year and is now challenging for Dmitry Bivol’s WBA(super) Light Heavyweight title. Their fight will headline a Matchroom & Dazn Boxing PPV event on May 7, 2022, from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
Canelo is coming off becoming the undisputed Super Middleweight Champion as he defeated Caleb Plant for the IBF title in November last year. He defeated Billy Joe Saunders, Avni Yildrim and Callum Smith before that to win the other super middleweight world titles. Prior to that Canelo also won the WBO light heavyweight title by defeating Sergey Kovalev. There remains ample evidence that he could become the champion once again in the division.
However, Dmitry Bivol is no lackey having held the WBA title since November 2017 and defending it 8 times successfully. His last fight came in December last year when he defeated Umar Salamov in Russia. Will he upto the challenge to give Canelo a scare?
