Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin Trilogy

Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovokin trilogy bout is officially announced to take place on September 17 later this year.

Alvarez and Golovkin are set to lock horns one more time after a long break of four years. Their first bout took place in 2017 which ended up in a split draw whereas the second bout took place in 2018 and was won by Canelo Alvarez.

Matchroom Boxing officially announced this matchup on Tuesday. Eddie Hearn stated that Alvarez vs Golovkin III is the biggest fight in boxing and he is delighted to make it happen.

The location and venue for the third bout are yet to be revealed but the speculations are that the trilogy will be completed in Las Vegas.

Canelo Alvarez is the current Undisputed Super Middleweight champion and is holding all four major titles. He will defend his belts against Golovkin in the super-middleweight contest.

Canelo Alvarez recently faced Dmitry Bivol in a Light Heavyweight bout on May 7 where the latter managed to upset Alvarez by pulling off a unanimous decision win. This was just the second loss of Canelo’s career after losing to Floyd Mayweather in 2013.

Hence, now he will try to get back on the winning track by ending his much-awaited trilogy with Gennady Golovkin with a victory.
