Candice LeRae & Lio Rush Become No #1 Contenders

Candice LeRae and Lio Rush have won the no #1 contender’s match for NXT Women’s Championship and WWE Cruiserweight Championship respectively during NXT’s USA premiere last night.

A mega fatal 4-way match was announced for NXT’s tv debut on USA Network this week, which saw the likes of Io Shirai, Candice LeRae, Mia Yim and Bianca Beliar competiting. The match opened this week’s NXT episode which also saw the NXT North American title match and a Street Fight between Killian Dain and Matt Riddle.

The express 4-way match was saw breathtaking action which was hard to keep up with. Each woman got some big spots and even combined for a mega Tower of Doom. However, it was LeRae who hit Poisonrana and a moonsault on Yim back to back to get the pin. Post-match, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler also came out to intimidate LeRae along with her mates Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir.

In an unannounced match, Lio Rush made his return to WWE TV after a haitus. He faced Oney Lorcan to identify the no #1 contender for WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Drew Gulak. The Cruiserweight title has now come under NXT’s umbrella and will be part of the brand going forward.

The bout between Rush and Lorcan was another impressive affair, especially for Rush who reminded just how good he can be in the ring despite being considered difficult backstage. At one point in the match, Lorcan has things under control with single-leg Crab and Rush almost passed out. But after he broke the submission, he rallied on and went on to win the match.
