Rey Mysterio has announced that he will face Samoa Joe for the United States title at WrestleMania this year.
Rey Mysterio has been involved in the United States open challenge matches against R Truth. It was in such a match that Samoa Joe won the title from R Truth in a fatal 4-way match which also involved Rey and Andrade. Joe again defended the title at Fastlane against the same lineup but Rey was able to pin Joe in a tag team match last week.
Rey Mysterio announced the match in a backstage interview with his son Dominick alongside him. Dominick also said that he will be at the front row at WrestleMania to watch his Dad take care of a bully and win yet another championship. If you remember, Dominick featured in a storyline in 2005 between Rey Mysterio and WWE Hall of Famer, late Eddie Guerrero when Rey and Eddie fought at SummerSlam 2005 for the custody of Dominick.
Dominick, currently 21, has also been training to be a professional wrestler. It is not certain yet about the angle with Dominick being present in the crowd for the match. Though, going by his size, he can give a tough competition to Samoa Joe. But, in the end, this might just be Rey getting some screen time for his son to promote him.
WrestleMania 35 will take place at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on 7 April this year. For the updated match card from WrestleMania, please click here.
