The IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and the IWGP United States Championship matches have officially been announced for the NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2022 event.

Sanada vacated the IWGP US title at NJPW Hyper Battle due to broken orbital bones. He wanted to hand over the belt to the previous champion Hiroshi Tanahashi. However, Will Ospreay entered the ring and demanded the belt for himself.

As a result, Hiroshi Tanahashi also walked to the ring and challenged Will Ospreay for the IWGP US title match at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku.

Later, in the main event of NJPW Hyper Battle, Kazuchika Okada successfully defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Zack Sabre Jr.

After the match, Okada held the mic and challenged Tetsuya Naito. Earlier in February, he defeated Naito at the New Year’s Golden Series, and before that he lost against him in the cup.

Tetsuya Naito walked down the ring and accepted Okada’s challenge. As a result, the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match was made official for Wrestling Dontaku.

NJPW Wrestling Dontaku is set to take place on May 1, 2022, at the Fukuoka PayPay Dome.
