NJPW Wrestling Dontaku

During the Night 2 of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 16, the promotion announced a new PPV event titled “Wrestling Dontaku” which will take place on May 1, 2022.

NJPW revealed its venue as well, the Wrestling Dontaku PPV will take place at the Fukuoka PayPay Dome. The PPV was announced as a part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of NJPW.

The last three Wrestling Dontaku were two-night PPV events. However, this year, the PPV will be a single-night event.

It will be the 18th event in the Wrestling Dontaku chronology. This will be the first time in the last 12 years that the event will air on May 1 instead of May 3. The latter date is a national holiday and is celebrated as Constitution Memorial Day in Japan.

NJPW revived this PPV event back in 2009, and ever since then, it has been taking place at the Fukuoka Memorial Center.

Last year, Will Ospreay defeated Shingo Takagi to retain his IWGP Heavyweight Championship in the main event, whereas no matches have been announced for the Wrestling Dontaku 2022 event so far.
