WrestleMania 35: Samoa Joe beat Rey Mysterio in a quick match

At WrestleMania 35, Samoa Joe has retained the United States Championship against Rey Mysterio in a quick match.

Samoa Joe and Mysterio got involved in the United States Open Challenge announced by R Truth. Samoa Joe won the title at SmackDown in a triple threat match and then retained it at Fastlane in a fatal 4-way match. Rey pinned Joe in a tag team match and later announced that he will face Joe at WrestleMania for the title.

The match at WrestleMania rolled out in a weird manner. Rey countered Joe’s body slam just seconds into the match and quickly hit 619. Joe then pulled into the Coquina Clutch and the referee stopped the match quickly.

Rey was confused over the referee’s call to finish the match quickly. However, the reason for the quick finish might be Mysterio’s ankle injury which was announced by WWE last week. It will be interesting to see how this quick finish will be explained on SmackDown in the coming episodes.
