Last week, Seth Rollins closed RAW with an attack on McIntyre who had just defeated Andrade. WWE United States Champions’ aid Angel Garza hit McIntyre with a lowblow just as Rollins’ music hit and allowed Rollins to capitalize.

This week, McIntyre opened RAW once again. WWE Champion told the viewers that he is not surprised by Rollins coming after him since the title comes with a target on his back. He went on to challenge Rollins to come face to face against him at Money in the Bank. The match was confirmed after Rollins accepted the challenge from McIntyre via recorded video.

This will be McIntyre’s first title defense at a WWE PPV. After winning the men’s Royal Rumble 2020, McIntyre won the WWE Championship after beating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36. He has also since defended the title against Big Show in a match which took place, according to WWE, after WrestleMania. Over the last two weeks, McIntyre has also picked up the wins against Andrade and Angel Garza.

A 2-time WWE Champion and 2-time WWE Universal Champion himself, Seth Rollins has been working as a heel over 4 months now. His character has involved into a cult leader kind of figure, titled as the Monday Night Messiah. Until WrestleMania, he was involved in a long feud with Kevin Owens which ended after Owens defeated him at the shows of the show.

Coming out of that loss, Rollins asked his fans to keep faith with him. In a series of backstage promos last week and this week on RAW, he said that he is left with no alternative than going after WWE Championship.
