As per initial reports over the web, the King of the Ring Final is pulled from Clash of Champions due to time constraint. Most of the match from the tournament had been given good amount of time to be played out, which has also resulted in some fine matches. With 10 matches already announced for the WWE PPV, the final would not have been afforded the similar time.

King of the Ring tournament returned in 2019 after a gap of 4 years. 8 wrestlers each from RAW and SmackDown participated in the single-elimination tournament over three rounds in the quest to reach the finals.

From RAW side, Baron Corbin defeated The Miz in the first round and then took care of Cedric Alexander in the second one. In semifinals, which was a triple threat match, he pulled out Ricochet, who has already hit Samoa Joe with his finisher and got the pin himself.

On the other side at SmackDown, Chad Gable first defeated Shelton Benjamin and then Andrade to advance to the semifinal. He was originally supposed to face Elias but after his injury, Shane McMahon was added to the match. Despite Shane having a hold over the special guest referee Kevin Owens, Gable forced Shane to tap out to reach the finals.
