Io Shirai vs Candice LeRae Added to NXT Takeover: Toronto
Candice LeRae has been granted her wish for a match against Io Shirai which is announced to be added to NXT Takeover: Toronto on 10 August 2019.
Io Shirai faced Shayna Baszler at NXT Takeover: XXV on 7 June 2019 for the NXT Women’s Championship. As Baszler’s sidekicks, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir tried to interfere in the match, Candice LeRae came out to help Shirai. Although Baszler was still able to win the match and hold onto the title.
After the match, Shirai and Candice went on to assault Baszler. Shirai got another title shot at NXT when she faced in a steel cage match. But once again, Duke, Shafir, and LeRae interfered in the match and once again, Baszler retained the title. However, this time, Shirai turned heel on LeRae and went on to assault her with a kendo stick.
Last week, Shirai faced Kacy Catanzaro at NXT when LeRae came out and attacked her. Shirai just about escaped the assault. LeRae was once again ready this week to continue her pursuit of taking on Shirai. As she waited for Shirai in the parking lot, William Regal approached her. After a brief discussion, Regal agreed to book their match at NXT Takeover: Toronto.
