Cody Rhodes Out, Interim Title Match Announced For AEW Battle of the Belts
Interim TNT title and FTW title matches are announced for AEW Battle of the Belts event.
AEW has added two matches to the Battle of the Belts 2022 TNT Saturday Night Special event.
AEW announced on Thursday that matches will change at Battle of the Belts due to medical protocols. In the end, it was the TNT Championship match which is changed.
Dustin Rhodes revealed that Cody Rhodes could not defend his title on Saturday due to COVID-19 exposure. Instead, Sammy Guevara will now take on Dustin for the interim TNT title. The winner of that match will face Cody at a later date for the title unification match.
Cody won the TNT Championship for the third time on AEW Rampage Christiman special two weeks back. The rematch was confirmed earlier this week.
Apart from this, the FTW title match is also added to the card. Ricky Starks announced on the commentary that he will defend his title against Matt Sydal at the Battle of the Belts. He is apparently doing this to send a message to Dante Martin. Martin and Lio Rush are in a feud with Team Taz for the last few months.
Dr. Britt Baker DMD vs Riho for the AEW Women’s World Championship was already announced for the card, and it will likely be the main event for the night.
AEW Battle of the Belts will air on January 8, 2022, from 7 PM EST. We will be bringing in live results and updates from the show here at ITN.
