AEW NJPW Forbidden Door 2022

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2022 is the first-ever joint PPV from ALL Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling promotions. The event will feature wrestlers from both AEW and NJPW. The event will take place on June 26, 2022, at United Center in Chicago, IL.

Interim AEW World Championship match is announced for the show with Jon Moxley taking on Hiroshi Tanahashi. A fatal 4-way IWGP Title match will see Jay White, Adam Page, Adam Cole & Kazuchika Okada collide. A new AEW All Atlantic Champion will also be crowned on the show in a fatal 4-way match. AEW Women’s title match will be on the line in Thunder Rosa vs Toni Storm. IWGP & ROH tag team titles will be on the line in the same match as FTR, United Empire & Roppongi Vice collide.

June 25, 2022: Hiromu Takahashi was unable to travel to US due to fever and could not participate in the tag team match. The match was turned into a trios match.

June 24, 2022: The match between Team Chris Jericho and Team Eddie Kingston is turned into a match for Entry Advantage for Blood & Guts match between Jericho Appreciation Society and Blackpool Combat Club.

June 24, 2022: Two matches were revealed for Buy-In pre-show with Shane Strickland & Keith Lee taking on El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru, and QT Marshall & Aaron Solo taking on Hirooki Goto & Yoshi-Hashi.

June 23, 2022: NJPW revealed that Tomohiro Ishii has sustained a knee injury and will not be able to compete at this event. Clarks Connor will take his place in the AEW All Atlantic Championship match.

June 22, 2022: Jay White, Adam Cole, Adam Page & Kazuchika Okada were involved in a brawl at AEW Dyanmite. Later, AEW revealed a fatal 4-way match between them for IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

June 22, 2022: AEW revealed a match for Buy-in pre-show where Gunn Club and Max Caster will take on NJPW’s LA Dojo.

June 22, 2022: The Young Bucks revealed that they will team up with Hikaleu and El Phantasmo to take on Darby Allin, Sting and two other wrestlers. Darby then revealed Shingo Takagi and Hiromu Takahashi as their tag partners.

June 22, 2022: Bryan Danielson informed that he is out of Forbidden Door and Blood & Guts. But, he is bringing in a new member of Blackpool Combat Club who will face Zack Sabre Jr. at Forbidden Door.

June 21, 2022: Tomohiro Ishii qualified for All Atlantic Championship match by beating Clark Connors.

June 17, 2022: ROH World Tag Team Championship and IWGP World Tag Team Championship Winner Takes All match is announced for the event with ROH champions FTR(Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler), IWGP champions United Empire(Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb) and Roppongi Vice(Rocky Romero & Trent Baretta) competing in a three-way tag team match. June 15, 2022: AEW announced Thunder Rosa vs Toni Storm match for AEW Women’s Championship at this event.

June 15, 2022: Will Ospreay defeated Dax Harwood in a match at Dynamite. After this, a brawl broke out between United Empire and Roppongi Vice & FTR. Orange Cassidy returned to AEW and had a face-off with Ospreay. It was later announced that Orange Cassidy will challenge Ospreay for the IWGP US Heavyweight title.

June 15, 2022: Miro defeated Ethan Page in All Atlantic Championship Qualifier.

June 15, 2022: Chris Jericho announced that he will team up with Minoru Suzuki and Sammy Guevara to take on Wheeler Yuta Eddie Kingston and Shota Umino.

June 13, 2022: NJPW announced qualifiers for All Atlantic Championship match. Tomoaki Honma vs Clark Connors and Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs Tomohiro Ishii matches are announced for New Japan Road show on June 20th. The winners from those matches will face off on June 21 for the spot in the title match.

June 12, 2022: Zack Sabre Jr. called out Bryan Danielson for a match.

June 12, 2022: Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Hirooki Goto at NJPW Dominion 6.12 to set up the match for the interim AEW World title.

June 8, 2022: Kyle O’Reilly won the Casino Battle Royal to enter AEW Title Eliminator tournament. Jon Moxley defeated him to set up his spot in the interim AEW World title match at the show.

June 8, 2022: AEW revealed a new All Atlantic Championship. The first champion will be crowned at Forbidden Door in a fatal 4-way match. PAC defeated Buddy Mathews in the first qualifying match. Malakai Black vs Penta Oscuro and Ethan Page vs Miro are the other two qualifying matches. One participant will come from NJPW.

June 4, 2022: AEW announced that the winner of the match between Hiroshi Tanahashi and Hirooki Goto at NJPW Dominion will face the winner between Jon Moxley and Battle Royal Winner.

June 3, 2022: AEW World Champion CM Punk announced that he is injured and has to undergo surgery. AEW announced that a Battle Royal would take place at AEW Dynamite June 8 episode. The winner will face Jon Moxley in the main event. The winner of Dynamite main event will go to Forbidden Door for the interim AEW World title match.

June 2, 2022: A report on Wrestling Observer Radio stated that Adam Page vs IWGP Champion Kazuchika Okada match is expected to be on the card. Dave Meltzer later corrected that report and said the match cannot be confirmed as the PPV lineup was kept a secret.

June 1, 2022: AEW World Champion CM Punk calls out NJPW to show up at AEW Dynamite. Hiroshi Tanahashi showed up to seemingly accept Punk’s challenge.

May 27, 2022: Tony Khan said in Double or Nothing Media Call that Forbidden Door being at United Center will not change plans for All Out taking place in Chicago.

May 4, 2022: The pre-sale tickets were instantly sold with over 11,000 tickets sold.

April 20, 2022: AEW President Tony Khan came out to the stage on AEW Dynamite episode of April 20, 2022, and brought along NJPW President Takami Ohbari. He was about to announce this PPV, but Adam Cole took over and revealed that AEW and NJPW are holding a joint PPV at United Center in Chicago, IL, titled as “Forbidden Door.” It was later revealed that the pre-sale of tickets will open on May 4 while the normal sale will start on May 6.
