A pair of title rematches will headline UFC 272 PPV on March 5, 2022.

The title doubleheader features featherweight and bantamweight championship rematches in the main event and co-main event, respectively. The news was confirmed to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto by UFC President Dana White. UFC 272 is scheduled for March 5, 2022, with T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV being the speculated location.

Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Halloway 3

Alexander Volkanovski(10-0 UFC, 23-1 MMA) will defend UFC Featherweight Championship at UFC 272 main event for the third time. This will be his second defense and a trilogy fight against Max Halloway, whom he beat to win the title originally at UFC 245. The first defense against Halloway came via a controversial split decision at UFC 251.

After this pair of losses to Volkanovski, Halloway has raked up unanimous decision wins over Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez. The win over Kattar set several UFC striking records in one fight for Halloway. His back and forth battle against Rodriguez was also considered the fight of the year by many.

On the other hand, Volkanovski survived Brain Ortega’s submission attempt and then made easy work of him to get a unanimous decision. This was his 20th straight win for “The Great” in MMA, the longest current streak by any UFC Champion.

Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan 2

Sterling and Yan will finally meet in a rematch at the co-main event of UFC 272, which will serve as the bantamweight title unification bout. Aljamain Sterling(20-3 MMA) won the Bantamweight Championship at UFC 259 courtesy of an illegal knee strike from Petr Yan( in the fourth round. He became the first UFC fighter to win the title via disqualification.

The pair were set for a rematch at UFC 267 in October last year, but Sterling withdrew from the bout due to surgery for his neck issues. Yan then faced and defeated Cory Sandhagen in the interim title fight at the same event. Outside of that DQ loss to Sterling, Yan remains unbeaten in his UFC career with 8 wins.

Jessica Eye vs Manon Fiorot is also confirmed for the prelims card of this event. Keep tuned in for more news and updates from the MMA world.
