Michael Conlan will get a second chance to win the featherweight title on May 27.
Top Rank Boxing announced that Michael Conlan would challenge Luis Alberto Lopez for the IBF featherweight title on May 27, 2023, in Belfast. The winner of this bout will likely receive an order to the winner of Reiya Abe vs Kiko Martinez.
It will be Michael’s second chance to capture the title. He faced his sole career defeat when he challenged Leigh Wood for the WBA featherweight title last year in March. He lost the match via the twelfth-round TKO. He rebounded from this loss with wins against Miguel Marriaga and Karim Guerfi.
On the other hand, Luis Alberto Lopez put on an impressive show when he beat Josh Warrington in his most recent bout. Before that, he defeated boxers like Issac Lowe, Raul Chirino, and Yeison Vargas.
Lopez also stated that he isn’t afraid of traveling to the native country of his challenger for a fight. He won his title in Leeds and is pretty much sure that he would defend successfully in Belfast.
Now, Michael Conlan will be able to become the featherweight champion in his second attempt or will Alberto Lopez return home with his title on May 27?
