Masataka Taniguchi is all set to defend his WBO Minimumweight title for the very first time against Kai Ishizawa on April 22 in Tokyo.

The Strawweight title match will be the main event of the PBX Phoenix Battle 87. Taniguchi recently won the title last year in December by defeating Wilfredo Mendez via knockout in the eleventh round.

The current champion is on a four-fight winning streak. Before Mende, he defeated Tatsuro Nakashima, Hizuki Saso, and Kai Ishizawa.

On the other hand, Ishizawa is also on a four-fight winning streak. He must be looking forward to avenging his recent loss against Taniguchi by capturing his strawweight title.

Masataka Taniguchi admitted during a press conference Kai Ishizawa is on a whole different level now compared to their last match. So, this time he is cautious and is ready to do his best.

This will be the second world title fight that will take place in Japan this year. The event will take place at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on April 19 and will air live on Japanese IPTV service Hikari TV.
