Watch: Naoya Inoue stops Nonito Donaire in 2nd Round To Add 3rd Belt
Naoya Inoue dropped Nonito Donaire twice in two rounds to beat him via TKO in the main event at Super Arena in Saitama, Japan on June 7, 2022.
WBA(super) & IBF Bantamweight Champion Naoya faced WBC 118 lbs titleholder Donaire in their second title unification bout. The result was the same as the first time, but also a bit different.
Inoue was able to hit cleaner punches in the first round. Donaire countered with a couple of shots but Inoue knocked him down with a body shot. Donaire started the second round with a good straight jab but Inoue continued to nail him punches all over to drop him once again.
The referee stopped the bout at 1:24 in the second round, which would be one of the fastest stoppages in a title unification bout. Inoue’s record improves to 23-0 with 20 knockouts. Inoue earlier defeated Donaire via unanimous decision in their first meeting in 2019.
Inoue now holds three of the four major belts in the bantamweight division.
