Rey Mysterio Becomes No #1 Contender by winning the Fatal 5-way match

Rey Mysterio has become the no #1 contender for the Universal Championship against Seth Rollins after winning a fatal 5-way elimination match this week on WWE RAW.

WWE earlier announced a mega Fatal 5-way match for the no #1 contender for Rollins’ Universal Championship for this week. US Champion AJ Styles, Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, Rag Tag Team Champion Robert Roode, Ricochet and Rey Mysterio faced off at RAW this week in a fun match.

Ricochet was the first to be eliminated from the match after Nakamura ran him down with a Kinshasa kick. Later, Robert Roode dodged a phenomenal forearm from AJ Styles which ultimately struck Nakamura and led to his elimination. Next, Robert Roode eliminated AJ Styles after a glorious DDT.

Rey Mysterio and Roode fought back and forth for some time after that. But ultimately, Rey Mysterio ended the match with a 619 and springboard splash. He will now face Seth Rollins in a title match on next week’s season premiere episode of RAW.

In other segments announced of next week’s big episode is the appearance from Brock Lesnar. Also announced are WWE Hall of Famers Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair for a special segment of Miz TV.

Rey Mysterio was earlier shown contemplating retirement from the ring. But was stopped by his son Dominic who asked to continue until his in-ring debut. In a segment before last night’s match, Mysterio thanked his son to inspire him once again and dedicated this match to him.

Rollins also put over Rey Mysterio after his win, calling it a dream match in his career.
