Welcome to the live blog for the WWE SmackDown episode of 2 July 2021, which is advertising a Last Man Standing match between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn as the Money in the Bank qualifying match. Roman Reigns is also expected to respond to Edge attacking him last week and then getting a Universal Championship title shot at Money in the Bank. WWE SmackDown 2 July 2021 Quick Results

  • Big E & Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Apollo Crews & Baron Corbin in a tag team match via pinfall.
  • Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn in the Last Man Standing match to qualify for Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Edge’s Fire Promo

The show opens with the recap of Edge’s return last wee and how he beat up Roman and Jimmy Uso. Edge makes his entrance to the ring now. He starts his promo and talks about how he was so sure that he would become the Universal Champion at WrestleMania. And the loss affected him very much, which is why he was away. He went back and rewatched that match and found how Daniel Bryan cost him the match so many times when he had Roman down with a crossface.

We see stills of Edge applying the Crossface with a bar at WrestleMania. He goes on about how he lives in Reigns’ head rent-free for life. When his music hit last week and Reigns heard it, Edge knew that Reigns knew deep down. Edge now says it is only a matter of when he would beat Roman and win the Universal Championship. His music hits as the segment comes to an end.

Paul Heyman was watching the segment from Roman’s locker room. Jimmy Uso walks in and rants against Edge’s promo. Jimmy says he will tell Edge what he told him last week, that they are family and he is got Roman’s back like he has his. Uso says when Reigns gets here, they are going to put Edge down and stab the family flag in his heart.

Big E & Shinsuke Nakamura vs Apollo Crews & Baron Corbin

Rick Boogs is at the stage and he welcomes us to SmackDown. Boogs introduces the one true king of all of WWE – Kingsuke(Shinsuke) Nakamura. Boogs plays Nakamura’s entrance on his electric Guitar as he makes his entrance. We see the replay of Nakamura beating Baron Corbin at the Battle for the Crown and his coronation last week. Big E enters after this. We cut to the break.

After the break, Apollo Crews enters with Commander Azeez. We get the recap of how Corbin was sad after losing the crown and that he has lost so much of money from his investments. Corbin makes his entrance and looks very off.

Nakamura and Apollo start. Nakamura no-sells a shoulder tackle. Apollo puts him in a headlock and then delivers a big shoulder tackle off the ropes to bring down Apollo. Nakamura turns it around and puts him on the top turnbuckle to hit big kicks to the midsection. Big E tags in and boots Apollo to the corner as Rick Boogs plays something on the guitar.

Big E puts on the abdominal stretch for a while. Apollo ducks a clothesline and tags in Corbin. Big E takes a shot at Corbin and chases Apollo to the floor. Corbin brings him down with a big clothesline and sends him over to the timekeeper’s area. We cut to the break.

Corbin is unloading viciously on Big E. Big E tries to fight back but Corbin takes his down for a two-count. Crews comes in and hits a dropkick on Big E. Crews puts on a front facelock. Big E tries to tag in Nakamura but Crews hits a step-up enziguiri. Corbin takes the tag and he runs over Big E and takes out from behind. Nakamura is dropped from the apron by Corbin.

Nakamura comes in but Crews runs in and hits him with a dropkick. Corbin remains in the control. Boogs gets on the mic on the stage and announces that Corbin’s car is towed away. Corbin gets distracted and Big E hits the Big Ending on him to get the win.

Winner – Big E & Shinsuke Nakamura

Big E & Nakamura celebrate their win. Corbin is sitting in the ring, looking devastated at the state of affairs.

Bayley & Bianca Face to Face

Bayley makes her entrance to the ring after we see the replay of her pin over WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair last week in a tag team match.

Bayley says he told us that Bianca’s win at Hell in a Cell was a fluke. But the best part was the look of loss, dispair, and so on. She says Bianca is crumbling under the pressure. And it is so sad to see Bianca fall apart. “You suck” chants start from the Thuderdome crowd. Bayley says Bianca has been nothing in front of her.

Bianca makes her entrance and gets to the ring. Bianca argues over the fact that Bayley is in her head. She says Bayley will always be in her head because Bayley can not accept the fact that she keeps losing to her. Bianca then says she will have to humiliate Bayley to the point of no return and challenges Bayley to an I Quit match. Bayley laughs at her and says she would probably leave SmackDown, WWE and all of wrestling if she would say “I Quit”. Bayley agrees to the match.

Jimmy Uso goes to Roman’s locker room and meets Paul Heyman. He asks Heyman if Roman is back yet and what he is waiting on. Jimmy then says he would go to Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville to book a segment for him where he will call out Edge and beat him up. Heyman smiles at him as Jimmy leaves. Heyman then starts to pace in the locker room, looking tense.

Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn – Last Man Standing Money in the Bank Qualifying Match

Owens starts with a double leg takedown and unloads on Sami in the corner. KO hits a cannonball and Sami rolls out to the floor for a breather. Sami gets to his feet and Owens beats him up some more. Owens whips him into the barricade and Zayn gets to his feet at 5. Sami counters a whip to send him into the barricade. They end up going near the Thunderdome screens. Owens slams Sami’s face into the screen.

Sami ends back to the ringside area. KO hits a senton from the barricade. Sami gets back to his feet at six. Owens puts Sami on the announce table and was looking for a move but Sami recovers and throws him over the announce table. The referee starts the count on KO band he gets back to his feet at 7 counts.

Owens hits shoulder tackles in the corner as we return. Owens uses the ropes to hurt Sami. Sami slaps him back but Owens unloads on him with big right hands and a big chop. Sami rolls to the floor now. Owens throws him into the ring post. Sami gets to the ring. They trade strikes before KO brings out a couple of tables and sets it up at the ringside.

Owens tries to superplex Sami through the tables. Sami fights back and drops Owens to the floor. Sami hits a suicide dive on the floor. Sami unloads on KO as they get back into the ring. Owens rakes his face but Sami sends him into the turnbuckle with a Northern Light Suplex. Sami goes to hit a superplex but Owens hits him with a brainbuster from the top rope. Sami makes it back to his feet at 8 counts.

KO hits a series of superkicks now. He puts Sami to the top turnbuckle and hits a big chop. Sami flips him over and KO gets sent through the stereo tables set up on the floor. KO struggles but gets back to his feet at 9 counts somehow. We cut to another commercial break.

Sami is setting up another table at the ringside as we return. Owens fights back with punches. They fight back and forth for a while. Owens goes for the Stunner on the apron but Sami drops him on the apron instead. Sami hits him with Helluva kick when they return to the ring. KO gets back to his feet at 8 count. Sami hits two more Helluva kicks back to back. Sami was already celebrating but KO rolls to the floor and gets to his feet.

Sami is frustrated now. Sami charges at him but KO catches him with a superkick. KO hits a pop=up powerbomb in the ring now. He waits for Sami to get back to his feet to hit a Stunner. Sami rolls to the floor and KO hits him with a powerbomb through the announce table. KO then hits powerbomb through another table and then on the apron. The referee starts the count and counts down to 10. Kevin Owens has won this match.

Winner – Kevin Owens

Megan Morant catches Edge backstage and asks him about Jimmy Uso’s plan to call him out at the end of the show. Edge says it is an obvious trap from Jimmy and Roman to double up on him. But he will still answer the call as he is fed-up of Roman.

After the break, Bianca Belair vs Bayley “I Quit” match is announced for Money in the Bank.

We cut to Baron Corbin strolling backstage. Rick Boogs comes up and makes some King pun jokes.

Sonya Deville is in the ring and she is about to announce the next Women in the Money in the Bank Ladder match. It is going to be Zelina Vega. Vega makes her return and enters to the ring. Vega talks about winning the Money in the Bank and then becoming the Women’s Champion.

Liv Morgan interrupts and comes out to the ring. Liv asks Sonya why Vega gets the precedence over her for MITB match. Vega says she has been one of the most popular WWE Women Superstar. Morgan challenges Vega for a match right away to prove she is better. Sonya Deville sanctions the match. Liv slaps Vega to send us to the break.

Liv Morgan vs Zelina Vega

The match has already started and Vega has Morgan in a submission move as we return. Vega drops her in the ring now to get a two-count. Morgan avoids a charge in the corner but Vega runs over her to get a two-count. Vega hits a big knee in the corner. Vega with a running knee for another two-count. Morgan rolls her over for a two-count. Vega counters the rolls for a pin attempt but the referee catches her using the tights. Liv Morgan then rolls over Vega in the schoolboy pin again and uses the tights to get the pin.

Winner – Liv Morgan

Otis makes his entrance with Chad Gable. We cut to another break.

Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville gets interrupted by Seth Rollins backstage. He introduces himself and counts his accomplishments of bring a Grand Slam Champion, Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank winner. Pearce says they know who he is. Rollins retorts at them for being overlooked and not being happy about Edge getting the WWE Universal Title ahead of him. Deville and Pearce say Edge deserved a title shot since Daniel Bryan was inserted into the WrestleMania match. Rollins says Pearce was the stupid one to do that and why is he being punished for that. Deville interjects and tells him that if he beats Cesaro next week, he will earn a spot in the Men’s Money In the Bank Ladder Match.

Otis vs Angelo Dawkins

We see the replay of how Angelo Dawkins was double-teamed and beaten up last week by Otis and Gable. Dawkins unloads on Otis to start. He hits a corkscrew forearm. He also decks Chad Gable off the apron. Otis hits a big tackle to drop him. Otis sends Dawkins’ shoulder into the turnbuckle. Otis beats him around for a while. Otis hits a splash from the second rope. He drags Dawkins into the corner and hits the Vader bomb to get the pin and the win.

Winner – Otis

Jimmy Uso Calls Out Edge

Jimmy Uso goes to Paul Heyman backstage. Jimmy says Edge is asking for it. He asks Heyman about Roman. Heyman says The Tribal Chief operates on his own time. Heyman tells Jimmy to be “Main Event Jimmy,” go out there and do what he needs to do. Jimmy makes his entrance to the ring as we cut to the break.

Jimmy is in the ring and calls out Edge to come out and says this is not a trap. Jimmy says he can handle Edge by himself and does not need any help from Jey or Roman. Edge’s music hits and he comes out to the stage. Edge tries to reason with Jimmy and says Roman is using him, just like he used Jey for the last year. Edge asks what happened to Jimmy bieng “Nobody’s B—h” because now he is just another one of Roman’s b—h.

Edge says this is a trap, but not for him. This is a trap for Jimmy. Edge approaches the ring. Jimmy tries to attack him on the apron but Edge fights back and sends Jimmy into the ring post. Edge takes apart the steel steps which give Jimmy the chance to superkick him. Edge turns it back and puts on the crossface on Jimmy. Jimmy taps out right away but Edge does not leave the hold. Edge waits for him to get back up and hits him with a spear.

Edge now goes and brings up a chair from the timekeeper’s area. He breaks the steel bar from the chair and goes on to put Jimmy in the crossface using that bar. Jimmy yells for a while until Edge lets go of the hold. Edge sends a message to Roman from the camera and tells him “I don’t stop.” The show goes off the air.
