Preview
Universal Championship Match: With Edge, Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar and others lurking, Finn Balor did not want to wait for a PPV to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship match. So, he challenged Roman for a match on 3 September 2021 episode. Balor earlier wanted to face Roman at SummerSlam, but John Cena ended up signing the contract instead. Will this match reach a definite end or does someone end up causing a DQ?
Build-up For Extreme Rules: Many storylines are expected to build up towards the Extreme Rules PPV. Becky Lynch vs Bianca Belair is looking set for the event, but Edge vs Seth Rollins match won’t be a surprise also.
Results
- The Street Profits defeated The Usos in a tag team match via DQ.
- Rick Boogs defeated Dolph Ziggler in a singles match via pinfall.
- Cesaro defeated Seth Rollins in a singles match via DQ.
- Sami Zayn defeated Dominik Mysterio in a singles match via pinfall.
- Roman Reigns(c) defeated Finn Balor to retain WWE Universal Championship via referee stoppage.
Live Updates
The Usos vs The Street Profits: This was a tag team championship contender match. The Usos cut a promo in the ring before the match and asked Street Profits why they were sticking their nose in their business. Profits replied to them while making their entrance. The Street Profits won the match by DQ after Jey(not being the legal man at the time) attacked Montez Ford. Profits won the post-match brawl as Ford took out both Usos with a suicide dive.
Paul Heyman gets a call from Brock Lesnar when he was caught by Kayla Braxton for an interview. Heyman ignored the call once, but had to pick when it comes for the second time. Heyman stuttered to tell Lesnar that he will deliver the message. Heyman tried to run away from Kayla and ran into MITB holder Big E.
WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch came out and praised Bianca Beliar. But Becky is upset that her win at Summerslam made her a villian. She claimed that she saved Summerslam when Sasha Banks pulled out. Bianca Belair came out and says she was embarassed to lose the title in 26 seconds. Bianca said now that she has became the #1 contender, why not Becky defend the title against her tonight. Becky said no and went away.
Rick Boogs vs Dolph Ziggler: Boogs overpowered and pressed Ziggler before dropping him on the mat. Ziggler countered a pumphandle slam with a thumb to the eye. Ziggler drives Boogs into the mat for a two-count. Boogs caught a superkick and hit the big pumphandle slam to get a quick win.
WWE Officials Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville informed Becky Lynch that she will defend the title at Extreme Rules 2021 against Bianca Belair.
Cesaro vs Seth Rollins: Cesaro started strongly and put Rollins in the swing. Rollins avoided the swing by catching the ropes. Rollins hit impaler DDT to send us to the commercials. Rollins hit a buckle bomb after the break. Cesaro countered the stomp and hit a powerbomb. Cesaro put on the swing and sharpshooter. Rollins broke the sharpshooter by getting to the ropes. Rollins got frustrated and hit Cesaro with a steel chair to cause a DQ. He continues to attack Cesaro post-match and put him in the steel bar assisted crossface just like Edge use to do. Edge runs out to make the save.
After the break, Edge challenged Seth Rollins for a match at Super ShowDown next week.
KO Show with Baron Corbin: Kevin Owens brought in “Happy” Baron Corbin as his guest this week. Corbin talked about his new fortune and told us how he became friends with Logan Paul. Owens told Paul that WWE fans did not want him in the ring at all. Paul shoved KO. Corbin cut off an attack from Owens and hit him with chokeslam.
Sami Zayn vs Dominik Mysterio: Back and forth action to start the match. Dominik went for the 619 but Sami backed up the ramp. Rey came out to stop him from walking out. Dominik took him out with a suicide dive. Dominik took him back to the ring but ran into a Helluva kick to get pinned.
Roman Reigns vs Finn Balor- Universal Championship Match: Finn Balor made his entrance and got attacked by the Usos. The Usos struck him with the steel steps before The Street Profits sent them away. Roman Reigns came out for the match and the referee asked Balor if wanted to continue. Balor was ready for the match after a commercial break.
Roman beat up Balor to start the match. Balor tried to attack Roman’s leg. The back and forth match continued. In the final minutes, Balor hit Roman with Coupe de Grace, but Roman kicked out of the pin and caught Balor with a low blow in the process. Roman then put on the Guillotine choke to put Balor to sleep. Roman retained the title.
